So, I was thinking. Well, not really thinking, since I hit that button on the screen at high speed, but I booked a ticket to Florida. We have no clue what we’re doing and left things unexplainable last time, although we couldn’t stop grinning. That’s a good sign.

I’m assuming I have a place to crash and can save my money for a lingerie shopping spree. Don’t worry, I’ll head straight for the olive-green section so you can take a photo of the lace lying on your bed for social media before you give me a private showing.

I would say that I hope you don’t mind my not giving you a choice on having me as your houseguest, but I know you enjoy being commanded.

Uh-oh, Stone,

Someone is very presumptuous. But of course, mi casa es su casa. And you’re right, we are two clueless souls.

Is this all like a hockey pinch? When you attempt to make a gamble as you want to win my puck? Yeah… I can already hear you saying that you will literally pinch me.

You’re in luck. I don’t think I want to be alone in my bed, and if you are offering your services, then I’m not sure you need to bother with lingerie, I just plan to stay naked. On the other hand, my wrists might need to be constrained…

-Harlow

Tsk tsk, the belt tying was going to be my surprise.

Icould re-read his emails a thousand times. We’re not a texting couple, we write letters because we are a sappy couple, apparently. Text messages are for practical reminders. Letters are for words that will carve into your heart.

My heart. Why does that come to mind?

Blowing out a deep breath, I wait for Flo to work her magic as I lie down.

She whistles, impressed. “You were sure in a rush, demanding I fit you into my schedule for your wax. Someone has plans,” she remarks as she gets the wax ready.

I prop myself up on my elbows. “Well, Stone is coming in a few days, and I’m sure we have plans.”

Flo snorts a laugh. “I’m sure he will be coming.”

I gawk at her for her joke, but admittedly, it’s funny.

The holidays have passed, and I think he got his uncle-of-the-year award. I saw my folks down in the Virgin Islands and kind of kept myself busy the past few weeks with writing. When Stone wrote that he had booked a ticket to come see me, it was an easy decision. I can’t wait to see him. I’m happy he’s making the effort, even though I’m not sure what the effort is for.

“You know, Harlow. I think it’s really great that you have a brightened face and more bounce to your step. Who knows, maybe it can go somewhere.”

A feeling dips in my stomach. “That’s the hard part. We’re more than a fling but nothing serious.”

I flinch when I hear a rip and there’s a brief sting against my skin, but this is all in the name of a good cause.

“Whatever it is, then enjoy it. Will I get to meet him?”

I shake my head. “Probably not. He’s only here for a few days, and, well, I kind of hope that we are occupied, except for maybe a walk on the beach and having dinner by the ocean.”

“I bet.”

A thought stews in my head as I stare at the ceiling. “Maybe this is all another blow from fate. Throwing me another obstacle. Giving me a preview of what a normal relationship could be again, only to tear it all away for some reason.”

I turn my head to see Flo contemplating with her lips pursing out, maybe even hesitating to say anything, but then she does. “Nobody knows what will happen, Harlow. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take a chance. What if you miss out on fate throwing you the perfect card?”
