“Fucking cunt.”
“My thoughts exactly. Any chance you can get here quickly? I have a test this morning.”
“Only if you promise to have coffee waiting for me.”
“Duh.” I smiled and rolled my eyes, even though I knew she couldn’t see me. We disconnected, and I went back into the house. With any luck, Riley would stay asleep until I was long gone.
Quietly, I moved around the kitchen and made Krista some coffee and toast. It just popped up when I heard footsteps on the stairs.
Fuck. I didn’t want to have a showdown with Riley this morning. It would take everything in me not to pull her fucking hair out.
I took a deep breath to calm down, but Riley always put me in a bad mood. I was already angry because of what she had done to my car. So, keeping my cool during any confrontation this morning would be extra challenging.
“I saw you have a flat.” Riley didn’t bother to hide the smirk of satisfaction that crossed her smug face. She was beautiful with classic looks. Blonde, blue eyes, porcelain perfect skin, full lips, and a black fucking heart. She would give the Wicked Witch a run for her money.
“Seems I do.” I clenched my teeth and forced a calm voice of indifference. Over my years living with my uncle and my cousin, I have gotten good at masking my feelings.
She quickly buried her anger in her blue eyes when I didn’t give her the reaction she wanted. She was like a petulant child, wanting my attention and reaction at what she had done. I wouldn’t give her that luxury. I wasn’t about to give her the fight she was after. Not yet. One day when I had a way out of this prison, that’s when I would finally get her back for the years of hell.
One more semester, Zoey. Just finish one more semester and you can find a job and get out,I said to myself as I gathered my stuff and Krista’s breakfast.
“I’m having Daniel over tonight. Dad’s going to be out late. You need to stay away.” Daniel was one of her current flings. Not sure where she finds these assholes she sleeps with, but I had no intention of getting in her way with him. He gave me the creeps.
I shrugged. “I have work, Riley. I won’t be home until late, and when I do come home, I’ll go to my room as always and stay out of your way.”
“Good. Add my bedding to your chore list tomorrow. I’m sure they will need cleaning after tonight.” She grinned, and I wanted to gag.
“You know you have two hands and just as much access to the washer and dryer as I do, right?”
If humans could breathe fire, I would have gone up in flames after that retort. “If you don’t wash my sheets tomorrow, I’ll tell Dad.”
I sighed. “I’ll get it done.” Maybe with a flamethrower, I thought to myself, envisioning taking a flame thrower to her room and the whole damn house—laughing as it all went up in flames. It gave me something to smile about as I walked out the door and to Krista’s waiting car outside.
