“You’re letting me off the leash and without my hands bound when he’s here?”

“Like I said, Zoey. I wanted you to know what it was going to be like when he’s not here because he’s gone in the morning. When it’s just me, I can’t be in two places at once. So, where I go, you go.”

Chapter 18

Zoey

He wasn’t sure whatto get, so he brought three kinds of pizza back with him. I would have laughed, but given the circumstances, I also thought it was really sweet.

There was cheese pizza, one with all meats, and one with veggies. It was way more than the three of us could have eaten, but I am not particular about pizza. I love it all, except if it has pineapple and anchovies. That is unforgivable.

“Here.” Killian handed me a ginger ale and a bottle of Tylenol PM. “You had a headache today. This will help you get some rest and help any lingering pain.”

“Thanks.” I took the bottle from him, but didn’t open it to take the pills. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be that groggy through the night.

“Do you get headaches a lot?” Killian asked me, sitting back on the couch and grabbing another piece of pizza from the box.

“I get stress headaches, and I felt someone watching me again today It was getting to me.” I shot his friend a glare. “That’s why I left work early.”

“You felt like you were being watched while you were at work today?” Killian sat forward and threw his half-eaten piece of pizza back into the box.

“Yes. I told you that.”

“You told me you had been feeling that you had someone watching you, and D has been, but he wasn’t at your work today because we were packing up your things, Zoey.”

My eyes went from one man’s intense expression to the other, and I knew that something was very wrong. There was a piece to this puzzle they weren’t telling me, and whatever it was had to make some of this make sense.

“So, there are more people following me.” It was more a statement than a question, but they both nodded.

“When we headed here, did you keep an eye out for tails?” Killian looked at his friend quickly, then got up to move toward the front of the house to peek out the blinds.

“Of course. Nobody was there. I even took some crazy turns and went on some back roads.”

Killian was still looking out at the front of the house, but the tension in the air was thick, and that wasn’t good for my head.

“Don’t give her the PM meds. If we need to leave, she needs to function quickly. You haven’t seen anyone else watching her while you have been keeping an eye out, have you?”
