Nora sat next to me, her hand clutching mine, with a worried look on her face.
“You guys are going to have to get your own place when you come back or I’m moving out.” Drew laughed and Nora blushed beat red.
Evelyn tried to hide her smile, but couldn’t contain it for long, and just like that, the ice was broken. ‘Thank you,’ I mouthed to my brother, then brought up the subject of the wedding.
“I know we aren’t having a big, fancy affair tomorrow, but will you be my best man?” I asked him as I picked up the bowl of green beans that were on the table and scooped some onto my plate.
Drew smirked. “That’s a given.”
“Thank you, brother, and thank you Evelyn, for being open minded and accepting this.” I looked at Nora’s mom and gave her a grateful smile.
“Like I told Nora. I’m just happy she found a man who loves her and will treat her well. I didn’t pick so wisely my first time around, and don’t worry about your dad, Dean. He will come around.”
I cleared my throat, hesitant to disagree with her. “Maybe. For everyone’s sake, I hope so.”
“What time are we going to the courthouse tomorrow?” Drew asked around a bite of potatoes that he had shoveled into his mouth.
“Eleven-thirty. It shouldn’t take long since it’s just a matter of us signing the paperwork and the judge basically signing off on it. Maybe we can have lunch afterward?”
“Yes. We can go to Sunset Charm after the ceremony. I’ll call and reserve us a table for one. Maybe by then most of the lunch rush will be gone.”
“Sounds good.” I confirmed, and squeezed Nora’s hand lightly. I knew she was worrying about Dad, and I wished like hell I could take that worry from her.
“I have one request, you two,” Evelyn stated, drawing attention to herself.
“What’s that?”
“Leave some wedding traditions intact.” She winked. “Separate rooms tonight, and no seeing Nora before the wedding.”
“Mom, you’re not superstitious.” Nora laughed.
“No, but I’m only going to get to do this once, and I want some of those silly traditions to take place.” She shrugged. “Humor a mom.”
“We’ve waited four years, Evelyn. One night apart won’t kill us,” I agreed for the both of us. It was the least we could do after what she had done for us.
I looked at my phone to see if my dad had sent any texts, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t both relieved and disappointed. Relieved because I didn’t want to deal with the strain when I would celebrate the happiest day of my life the next day, and disappointed because I was hoping to see some kind of acceptance from him.
After dinner, I walked Nora to her bedroom door and said goodnight. We shared a long kiss that only teased and succeeded at getting me desperate for her. “I’ll see you in the morning, wife to be.” I kissed her forehead and pulled her close, loving the feel of her in my arms.
She sighed happily. “Tomorrow morning can’t come fast enough.”
“If we hurry and go to sleep, it may come faster.” I kissed her lightly again, regretting telling Evelyn we would stay apart until the wedding, but I was a man of my word. After a few more shared kisses and loving caresses, we parted and went into our own rooms.
I was lying on my bed with thoughts of Nora, and missing her body next to mine, when my phone pinged with a text from the nightstand beside me.
Nora: Mom’s request that you not see me until the wedding. She didn’t mention texting. ;)
I laughed. “No she did not.” I text back with a smile on my face. “You sent me to bed with a rock-hard cock.”
Little bubbles appeared as she was typing, and I couldn’t wait to see what she said.
Nora: Well, I guess we are even because my pussy is so wet and empty it hurts.
I groaned. My girl liked dirty talk. Fuck yeah. I smiled.
“How would you know how wet it is unless you were touching it?” send.
More bubbles, and I stroked my cock as I waited for what she would say next.
