I hugged his backside, sucking in a breath as he pulled away from where I was last standing.
“What brings you to the rally?” he shouted.
I raised my voice so he could hear me over the hum of his engine. “A business deal.”
“A kid like you does business?”
“Only if it’s necessary. Why are you going to the rally?”
He shouted over the roar of his bike, “Only passing through. I’m on my way up to Garter County, Tennessee.”
“What’s there?”
“Unfinished business.”
We rode the rest of the way in silence, pulling over when we got to the entrance.
There was a tall man standing there, letting people in. He towered over me and had a leather jacket on like a normal biker, but this one had a skull and what looked like zodiac signs on the back of it.
The biker I rode in with paid him something before they both turned toward me. “Entrance fee is twenty dollars, kid,” the tower sized biker informed me.
“Oh… I… I just assumed it was free.”
The two bikers exchanged a look before the one who gave me a ride slapped another twenty in his hand. “I got the kid.”
“You sure, man? He looks a bit… damaged.”
There was that word again, the one that followed me around my whole life. I was damaged, so damaged I was about to commit a crime just so I could save the only person I loved.
“Eh, even damaged goods deserve a good time. You gonna be okay wandering around here on your own, kid?”
“Sure. Thanks for the ride and the entrance fee.”
The biker barely smiled, but he did nod his head towards me. “You’re welcome. You can call me Holden, by the way.”
“I’m Dillon.”
“Well, Dillon, I wish you luck. Stay safe out there.”
The biker rode off, leaving me standing at the entrance with the other tall biker. “You can go in now, kid.”
“Um thanks.”
I pulled my hoodie up again and meandered into the rally, taken aback by all the bikers and women that were hanging around. There were leather and tits as far as the eye could see.
I noticed Beretta and his men off in the corner, and Beretta motioned for me to follow him. Knowing it was a bad idea to be seen together, I stayed a few steps behind, making sure it looked like I was keeping my distance. Once we were behind an old barn, he pushed me against it.
“Listen here, kid. You get this bike for me, and you and your slutty sister go free. Fuck this up in any way, and you’re both dead. You got me?”
“Yeah,” I choked out. “I got you.”
“Good. Good. Now, this is the bike I want you to snag. It’s the only one out there like it.”
He showed me a picture of a bike painted up like a galaxy. It was gorgeous.
“Have you ever ridden a bike before?”
“Yeah, once or twice.”
