One of them had my gun, and let go of me just long enough for him to fire a few shots at Duncan. Duncan didn’t let up or try to deviate his line of path. He rode straight for them, using the open floor plan as the perfect pathway to cause mass destruction. All three men had to jump back, releasing the hold they had on me. My body violently hit the ground, and even though I felt my spine shift ever so slightly, my instincts kicked in. The second I was coherent enough to react, my foot side swept the closest person to me, bringing the big bad biker down on the cold concrete, his head making a sickening thud as it hit the ground, knocking him out cold.

“You assaulted a law enforcement officer. That’s prison time, Bucko,” I shouted at the incapaciated man. I glanced over at his friend and noticed my gun sitting in the guy’s left hand, watching helplessly as he fired shot after shot Duncan’s way. Somehow, Duncan was managing to avoid the bullets, but it would only be a matter of time before they got that money shot in. So I did the only thing I could do. I haphazardly rushed the one with my gun, though my tiny frame was nothing compared to his massive build and I bounced off him like a springy mattress.

I don’t know why Scorpio wasn’t shooting them back, but then it dawned on me… he was afraid. Afraid to get thrown back in jail, afraid to commit a crime in front of me, afraid to react and me disapproving of his actions. .

“If you have a gun, use it!” I screamed over the roar of the motorcycle.

The second he heard my instructions he pulled out a gun, firing back at the assholes that tried to attack me. I’m not sure where he got it from, maybe borrowed it from one of his brothers since his was locked up in an evidence locker, but this was one time I was thankful he was breaking the rules of having a firearm while under an investigation. He was literally saving my life. One of the men he shot at got immediately nicked in the shoulder by a bullet, while the other just kept firing my gun, trying to avoid being run over by the bike or hit with a stray bullet. The third guy was knocked out cold on the ground, he must’ve hit that ground hard.

When the one firing ran out of bullets, he screamed, “Retreat!” because they no longer had the upper hand. The dude standing closest to me started to run after him, but not before I hit his wrist hard, knocking my gun to the floor. The last thing we needed was to lose another gun, and I sure as shit wasn’t going to let it be mine. I didn’t even notice that the third guy had come to, until I saw him running after his friends clumsily saying, “Wait for me.” These assholes may be big bad bikers, but they sure couldn’t hit a target if it bit them in the face.

The second they were gone, Scorpio pulled up beside me. “Get on,” he demanded, looking around the room.

“What? Why?”

“Because they’ll be back, and they’ll have fucking reinforcements.”

Reluctantly, I climbed onto the bike behind him. The second my arms were wrapped around his waist, he revved the engine, speeding out of the theater like we were being chased by a monster. God, I was gripping him so tightly that I probably was squeezing him to death. I’d never been on a motorcycle before, and I couldn’t believe my first time was with someone that was a lead suspect in a murder case.

“Hang on, Beautiful. We’re getting the fuck out of here.”

And hang on I did, because as far as I was concerned, there was no way in hell I was ever letting Duncan go… not after he saved my fucking life.

Chapter Fifteen

Scorpio

I pulled to a stop just outside her squad car, tucked discreetly in the shadows of the alleyway behind the Pharmacy. This wasn’t the best place for us to stay, but I could tell that she was upset. Her heart was thumping wildly in her chest, I could literally feel it pounding against my ribcage as I stopped the bike, fearful tears streaming down her face. Had I been a second or two later the worst might’ve happened to her…

“Hey now, you’re okay. Breathe, Juliette. Breathe for me, beautiful.”

Reluctantly she took a deep breath, staring up into my baby blue eyes with wonder. “Why did you save my life?”

I smirked, I couldn’t help it. How could she even ask a silly question like that? I’d made my feelings for her pretty apparent since the day I laid eyes on her. “Because what fun would I have in this world, if the woman I’m attracted to ended up hurt or dead. I’d protect you at all costs, Juliette. No matter what the circumstances.”

“Were you stalking me?”

He looked at the ground, a little bit of shame crossing his features. “Yes and no. I just wanted to keep you safe, I’m sorry if you felt like that was an invasion of your privacy but…”

Before I could finish my sentence, her lips were on mine, the passion of that pretty little pout had my body firing on all fucking cylinders ready to claim her right here and now. When I finally managed to pull away, her bottom lip was quivering, and my thumb reactively swiped away a few cold tears from off of her cheek, allowing the tension between us to tighten even further.

“Thank you,” she whispered as she stared at me with the look I’d been desperate to see since the moment I laid eyes on her.

“For what?”

“For saving my life, for not running away, for being a damn good kisser, and also for being the biggest flirt I know. You could’ve just walked away from me after you got out of jail… but you didn’t. I don’t know where I’d be if it wasn’t for you, Duncan.”

I had a funny comeback for that, but before I said or did something stupid, I gave her a little hug and changed the subject. “You don’t have to thank me, Juliette. I would do anything for you, including taking a bullet.” I held out my arm to show her the fresh wound.

Gasping, she fingered my injury. “You’re hurt. We need to get you to a hospital right away.”

I shook my head, smiling even wider. “It just grazed me. The bullet didn’t penetrate the skin. No need to worry about me, Beautiful, I’m like a cat, with infinite lives. You, on the other hand, are all banged up. Your eye is severely swollen, cheek is bruised, and I think they may have fractured something in it. If anyone should go to the hospital it should be you, or you need to let me take you home.

She nodded. “I’m not really in a position to drive right now.”

“That’s okay, I’ll drive you.”

She looked over at my bike. “But what about your bike?”
