“Motherfucker, you better shut your mouth before I get thrown into the cell with you so she won’t have to stay.”
Duncan laughed, and the big one joined in. “I don’t think we’ve officially met,” I looked up at the big guy.
“Name’s Bull.”
“Did your mama not love you?” I joked knowing he was giving me his road name, but it got the rest of the group to laugh, even the big guy himself.
“Nawh, she loved me just fine, it’s these assholes who blessed me with this road name.
“Yeah, because you’re filled to the brim with piss, vinegar, and bullshit,” Zodiac fired back.
Bull threw a well deserved middle-finger salute, before smiling. “Fucking love you too, Asshole.”
“Mrs. Monroe, you can join us, but I want a word with Mr. Buchanan. If you will both watch that door and make sure he...” I nodded to my co-worker who was finally making his way to his feet, “doesn’t go in there. I would appreciate it. If he does try to go in, knock on this door to let us know.”
“Yeah.”
Mrs. Monroe and Duncan moved back into the interrogation room, and I followed in behind them. “Have a seat, Mr. Buchanan.” I took the chair that left my back to the two way mirror and waited for them to settle on the other side. “I need to know what you know. What was Brooklyn into? Did she kidnap a kid, do you know where the child is?”
“My client can’t answer these questions at this time. We simply don’t have enough information to know what to share and when.”
“Mrs. Monroe...”
“Tess,” she interrupted. “You came to our clubhouse and brought us here to protect Scorpio. Call me, Tess.”
“Tess, I put my career on the line today.” I flipped my gaze toward Duncan before meeting hers again. “I did it because I want to get to the bottom of Brooklyn’s death. I don’t want another unsolved case on my hands.” I looked back toward Duncan. “I trusted you, despite everything, and I went to bat for you. It’s time you show me a little good faith and give me some answers.” I pushed my chair back and rose to my feet. “I’ll give you a few minutes to decide and discuss, but the only way I can truly help you and find justice for Brooklyn, if you didn’t kill her–”
“I didn’t kill her,” Duncan said quietly, the low timber of his voice had so much emotion behind it, that it truly spoke to me.
“If you didn’t kill her, the best way to find the bastard that did is to tell me what you know. I can’t solve a puzzle without all the pieces. And you seem to have the last few to wrap this one up in a pretty bow.” I moved to the door, hoping they would divulge whatever mysterious information they were holding on to from Brooklyn’s past. Part of me doubted they would, and I didn’t really blame them for that. But I wouldn’t be a good cop if I didn’t press them for more information.
Brooklyn’s killer needed to be brought to justice, and now that I’m having major doubts about that person being Ducan Buchanan, it was my job to investigate this case and figure out just who pulled the trigger, and how that gun got out of Scorpio’s car into the hands of the person who gunned a pregnant woman down in the middle of the day.
This case reeked like spoiled milk, and if I had to guess, a major player in all of this was Hollender… I just had to prove it.
Chapter Twelve
Scorpio
I watched Juliette’s ass as she walked out of the interrogation room. God, she was curved in all the right places, and my dick twitched with never ending interest in getting my hands on her. She was beyond beautiful, smart, sassy, and she saw through people’s bullshit. Juliette didn’t realize how perfectly she would fit into my life and around the clubhouse, but I did. Fuck, I did.
Tess chuckled, pulling my gaze away from the doorway Juliette disappeared through. “You sure you even want to get out of here, Scorpio?”
I grinned, “Yep, because my only shot with that woman is to clear my name, and even then I’m not sure she will ever give me a chance until she finds out who pulled the trigger that killed her father.”
“She can’t think that you had anything to do with that too, can she?” Tess looked puzzled.
“She doesn’t think I pulled the trigger, and I don’t think she suspects any of us. But it was our rally, and that’s enough to make me guilty by association. Can’t say I blame her, but at least clearing me of this gets me a step closer to getting into her good graces”
Tess sat back in her chair and studied me. “You’re falling for her, aren’t you?”
I stayed silent, unsure how to describe exactly what I felt for Juliette. All I knew for certain is that the feelings I had for her were the strongest I’ve ever felt for anyone. I would give anything to take the pain away from losing her father. It was a pain I knew well, and one I completely understood–down inside my soul. Since I met her, that pain hasn't consumed me like it did before. The possibility that Juliette may never accept me because of my brothers and my club gutted me. But I knew if I didn’t try, I’d miss out on something great.
“I don’t know what she means to me yet, but I want to find out.”
Tess nodded. “We can’t tell her anything until you are out of here. I don’t trust Hollender.”
“None of us do; her included.”
