“Ya know I could kill ya right now. I could end ya?”
He let off my neck enough so I could speak, “You could, but I bow to no man, especially one as corrupt and shady as you are. Now, get me my lawyer or put me back in my cell. I have nothing further to say.”
“Well, I have something to say.” I smirked when I heard Tess’s voice. She was pissed as hell, and I knew that Juliette was responsible for getting her. When I was able to get my hands on that woman, I was going to kiss her.
“You have detained my client long enough without charging him. Now, you have questioned him without an attorney present though he has asked for one repeatedly. You will release him now, or we will be taking this matter in front of a judge.”
I was definitely going to kiss the hell out of Juliette when I got out of this place. She fucking trusted what I said and went for backup. I looked in the doorway past Tess and saw a furious Zodiac and Bull standing there. My head notched and a grin spread across my face seeing that the cavalry had come. Tess had been doing things the right way and fighting to get me out, but this sealed it. If they didn’t release me, the department would have a lawsuit on their hands, and any case against me would be thrown out for coercion.
“That fucking bitch went and got you, didn’t she?”
I’d let him talk to me however he wanted. I didn’t go after him when he stood by and let this east coast asshole attack me, but he wasn’t going to talk about Juliette that way. I still hadn’t forgotten how he put his hands on her either.
“Don’t you fucking talk about her that way, motherfucker.” I went toward him, but Tess rushed to get in front of me, Zodiac came to the door, ready to act as well.
“Scorpio, stop.” Tess placed her hand on my chest and lightly pushed. I stopped immediately so I wouldn’t knock her down or get her put in the middle of what I really wanted to do with the scumbag. When she knew I was done, she turned on Hollender and Ricci, “I’m calling the judge now and reporting this. You will be reprimanded, and Duncan will be released, immediately. I won’t be leaving this building until he does.” She looked between the two men that crossed a line, Hollender looked worried, but Ricci did not. “Now, if you will excuse me, I need a word with my client alone.”
I watched as the two men moved cautiously by Zodiac and Bull, anger radiating from my president and our enforcer. Hollender made another huge mistake today. The first one was when he put his hands on Juliette, the second was when he called her a bitch. There would be no third mistake, and I would let him know it. I witnessed his corruption. Juliette was a witness to it, and now Tess and my club had a firsthand view of how morally corrupt the new acting sheriff was. He wouldn’t be in power long; we’d make sure of it.
Once the men were out of the interrogation room, Zodiac and Bull crammed in the small room with me and Tess. We took seats while Tess paced back and forth making phone calls. I flicked my eyes toward the two-way mirror before leaning forward and dropping my voice just in case, “Did you watch the drive?”
Zodiac nodded, his face blotched with anger and fury. “It’s bad, Scorpio. We’ve been through the journal entries also. She,” he paused, swallowing hard and clearing his throat of emotion, “She saved that girl and herself.”
“Do we know where she is?”
Zodiac nodded, “She’s safe. For now, we need to stay away until we figure out everything else that’s going on and who killed Brooklyn. Once we have that dealt with, we will check in on her and offer our protection as well.”
“The stroller?” I asked, remembering the letter I read that told Tess to look in the stroller from the storage unit.
“It was a letter asking Tess to love and take care of her baby if anything ever happened to her.” Zodiac paused again when Tess got off the phone and joined us at the table, “She wanted us to have her daughter, like she knew she was about to die.”
Zodiac and Tess joined hands, and Tess leaned into his shoulder. “The judge is pissed and is signing the papers for you to be released until they formally charge you. We should be out of here shortly.”
“Thank you.”
Tess smirked, “Thank Deputy Rooker.”
I grinned, “Oh, I fucking plan on it. I plan to thank every inch of her.”
Zodiac chuckled, shaking his head. “Only you would get a hard-on for the hot lady cop.”
I smiled smugly then laughed. “It’s more than a hard-on, Zodiac. I’m pretty sure she’s it for me.”
“Really?”
I nodded.
“She had me the second she slapped those cuffs on me.”
“Kinky,” Zodiac giggled. “Well, let’s get you out of here. So you can claim your girl and head home. The club is waiting for their VP to return.”
Home.It seemed so close, but I hadn’t been there in so long, that it felt incredibly far away.
Chapter Eleven
Juliette
I watched from the viewing room on the other side of the two way mirror as Tess moved in, stopping Ricci and interrupting their illegal questioning of a suspect. He’d demanded his lawyer as I knew he would, and they’d ignored him like I knewtheywould. I didn’t have a clue what the hell kind of evidence he had, or to what crimes, but I knew the only way to get to the truth was to open myself up to the possibility that he was innocent and something else was happening here.
