The woman had always been a flirt and bit crazy, but he seemed to put up with her psycho tendencies for whatever reason. When it came out that Rosalie was one of the main reasons Tess and Zodiac were thrown apart, Zodiac became unglued, telling her she was never welcome in the club again. I couldn’t blame him for that one. The stupid bitch had it coming after what she did.
“Any word on my bike or the Artillery?” I asked, changing the subject.
Fish shook his head. “Nawh, man. I’m sorry. Shit’s gone cold. Ever since your arrest, the Artillery has gone quiet. I don’t know if they’re planning something or if they’re just hiding out.”
“Bastards. I know they have something to do with all this. I just don’t know how to prove it,” I griped.
Scales dropped his voice so only the three of us could hear. “I checked the tapes… you weren’t at the clubhouse that night, Scorpio. Where the fuck were you?”
My eyes quickly darted over to where Deputy Rooker was sitting, but she was too busy thumbing through her phone, distracted by something.
“I can’t tell you,” I whispered.
“Why the fuck not?” he whispered back.
“Because it could get the club in trouble.”
Fish’s face dropped. “D--did you kill her?” he stuttered out.
Immediately we shushed his ass for being too loud.
“No, Clown Fish, I wouldn’t hurt Brooklyn. She was my friend.”
Fish smiled and sat back in his chair, sighing loudly. “Oh good, for a second there I thought maybe you had.”
“Nope… ” my voice trailed off as I chewed on the words that were burning a hole in my tongue. What would they do if they found out what I really did? Would they kick me out of the club? Would they turn me in?
No, it was best to keep them out of the loop. At least for now.
“Scorpio, if you’re keeping something from the club that could get us all in trouble, don’t you think it’s something we should know?”
“Time’s up, inmate,” Deputy Rooker barked from the corner.
I never have been so happy to be called an inmate in all my life. She just saved me from unloading my darkest secret on my brothers.
She came up behind me and grabbed me by the wrists.
“Check out that key for me and try to figure out what it is to,” I shouted over my shoulder as she escorted me from the room.
“Will do,” Scales shot back, just as the door closed between us.
“Come on, time to go back to your cell,” she growled, her demeanor a little darker than normal.
“You okay back there, Deputy Beau…” I asked, glancing at her from over my shoulder as she cut me off.
“It’s Juliette, okay? Now will you stop fucking calling me beautiful? I’m not beautiful… I’m…”
“Perfect… gorgeous… breathtaking... easy on the eyes.”
“Annoyed..” she gritted out as she pushed me into my cell. “Now fuck off and leave me alone for the rest of the day. I need to think.”
“Whatever you say, Juliette.” I liked saying her real name. It fit her. Juliette rolled off my tongue so easily, and I hoped one day that tongue could roll around other parts of her as well. It was going to happen, even if I had to drop to my knees and beg to lick that sweet pussy.
Chapter Six
Juliette
It had been years since I dated Barrett Hollender, so the fact that he’s married and has kids with the woman he cheated on me with shouldn’t bother me anymore--shouldn’t-- but it does. The happy couple is welcoming baby number four, and I haven’t been in a relationship since the asshole broke my heart. Logically, I knew the relationship was doomed the moment they pulled my best friend’s car from the lake with her remains still inside. Andrea and I may not have been close during the later years of high school, but that didn’t change the fact that we grew up together, and she knew me better than anyone else. You don’t lose your best friend like that and just let it go.
