Pam unknowingly spread blood across when she used the back to wipe the sweat from her brow. “He’s working for some dude named Kon. I’ma give it a minute, then I’ll wake him up and question him some more.”
“Outstanding,” Lincoln praised. “Carry on.”
A normal cop would've or should’ve been screaming at the top of her lungs about civil rights, false imprisonment, the right to remain silent, and his rights to an attorney. But normal was tossed out when they targeted her family.
CHAPTER 37
VICTOR
“Great job, Governor,” Renee beamed. “NBC instant poll says undecideds give the debate to you at 52%.”
“You kicked Paul Langdon’s ass on Roe v Wade,” Nathan added. “You also got him on immigration and the economy. Polls got you tied on law and order, but Taylor can help push you over on that with her being an ex-cop and all. It’ll help.”
The very mention of Taylor made Victor smile. When she’d arrived earlier that morning, he wanted to lock themselves in the room and spend some much-needed time with his wife. The campaign had them going in different directions, and he couldn't wait for it to be over. Victor turned to Kena. “Where is my wife?”
“She’s headed back to the hotel.”
“He might have tapped you on the environment and your position on aiding Ukrainian war efforts,” Renee warned.
“You think so?” Victor questioned.
“Yeah, but not enough to move the polls,” Nathan chimed.
Victor smiled and nodded at congratulatory gestures as he followed the Secret Service agents through the halls of the National Constitution Center. The debate had gone well.
“By the way, Governor,” Kena chimed. “You handled yourself well when Langdon tried to capitalize on that bullshit your sister-in-law tried to pull.”
Victor chuckled. “I knew it was coming. Speaking of my sister-in-law… do we have the results yet? I’d like to get them out there before the American people cast their votes.”
“I’ll double check when we get back to the hotel.”
“Good. Thank you.” Victor turned to his chief campaign strategist. “Nate, how’s Corrine doing in debate prep?”
Nate’s lips curled into a smile. “She’s killing it, Governor.”
The agents opened the door and ushered him into an SUV. Victor sat back in his seat and exhaled his relief at a successful debate. With the conclusion of that part of the campaign, Victor intended to use the very few free hours he had catching up with his wife.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long to get back to the hotel. Victor entered the suite expecting to find Taylor surrounded by staff. But to his delight, she was alone. The room was dimly lit, and Taylor was walking toward him in nothing but a black satin robe and sheer thigh-high stockings. She handed him a tumbler filled with, no doubt, his favorite scotch and kissed him gently. “I missed you so much,” she whispered against his lips.
Victor closed his eyes and inhaled her sweet scent. It didn't take more than seconds for his dick to swell and push against his zipper. “I have missed you too, sweetheart,” Victor rumbled.
Taylor stepped back and wrapped her fingers around his wrist. “Come,” she ordered seductively.
She pulled him along until they reached the couch and she urged him to sit. Taylor took a seat next to him and grabbed a tumbler with ice and clear liquid from the coffee table. “A toast?” she proposed, raising her glass.
“What are we toasting to?”
Taylor grinned. “To reaching the end of this election. We’re almost on the other side.”
Victor chuckled and raised his glass. “I’ll drink to that. To getting to the other side.”
He took a sip, but he couldn’t look away when Taylor lifted the crystal to her plump lips. Victor placed the glass on the table and pulled Taylor onto his lap. “We’ve been all over this country; you in one state, me in another. Is that what it’s gonna be in the White House?”
Taylor sighed. “Probably. But I think you’ll pretty much be pinned to the White House until the next election. And, where you go, I go.”
“That’s what I wanna hear. Where’s my baby girl?”
Taylor kissed the side of his face. “Right here.”
