“We’re getting them out of here today!” Lincoln barked at a doctor.
“I’m sorry,” the doctor responded, shaking his head. “Moving Mr. Creed is dangerous.”
“Leaving him in this hospital is dangerous!” Lincoln retorted.
Donna walked over to Alexander. “Xander, what happened?”
The fear in his eyes when he turned to her made Donna anxious. “What? What happened?”
Xander exhaled a breath and caressed her shoulder. “Donna, Lucas was attacked. Someone tried to kill him tonight.”
Donna gasped. “Oh, my God. Is he okay?”
“He’s fine, Donna. But Bella was there. She tried to help, but…”
Donna's eyes widened. “But, what?”
She became agitated by the sympathetic look in his eyes.
“But,what,Xander?”
“She was hurt,” he blurted.
Donna stepped out of his grasp. “Hurt, how?”
“She was beaten pretty bad, She has a concussion and a bruised kidney.”
“Oh, shit!” Donna took off toward the door. “Where is she?”
“Wait, Donna!” Xander called out.
Lincoln turned and noticed Donna for the first time. He ran over and caught her hand before she could open the door. He grabbed her by the shoulders and turned her to face him. “Sweetheart, Bella is gonna be okay. We’re getting them out of here,” he promised.
“Again, moving Mr. Creed is not safe,” the doctor chimed.
“This hospital is not safe!” Lincoln bellowed.
Donna turned to Lincoln’s family. “He’s right. I just left Niyah. Someone attacked her intern. They slit his throat and stole the shooter’s body.”
Lincoln’s brows knitted in disbelief. “Are you serious?”
Victor stepped up. “Lincoln’s right. We gotta get them outta here.”
Lincoln turned to the doctor. “Doctor Campbell, get them prepped for travel. We’re leaving tonight.”
Victor turned to his mother. “Mom, can we do this?”
Tabitha Creed nodded. “Y-yes. He can be transported by ambulance with all the machinery he needs.”
Dr. Campbell shook his head in frustration. “He needs around the clock medical attention provided by trained medical personnel. No offense, Dr. Creed, but your care alone will not be sufficient.”
Tabitha Creed walked over to the doctor. “I know the task will be too much for me. That’s why you’re coming with us.”
The doctor looked shocked. “I can’t come with you, Dr. Creed. I have a job.”
Tabitha placed her hand on the doctor’s shoulder. “If you can take some vacation time, I’m willing to pay you more than you make a year at this hospital.”
Donna could see the weight of temptation behind his eyes. And it seemed like the Creed matriarch had no intention of taking no for an answer. “You’re not going to turn down a year’ssalary for a month of work. Why don’t you go on and get my son and his fiancée prepped for departure.”
