In Emily, he had the goddess of beauty and intelligence, and O’Reilly just tried to gift him with the goddess of methamphetamine. Angel tugged Jason McCleary’s sleeve.
“Airport!” he demanded.
Without another word, Angel marched through the sea of undesirables surrounding him until he reached the hall. He didn’t have another minute to waste on the Irish gangsters. He needed to get to Emily.
Chapter Two
EMILY
Emily pulled into her parking space and shifted the car into park. Because she was good for forgetting to put her car in park when she was in a hurry, she double-checked before reaching in the backseat for her briefcase and shoes. Since it was snow on the ground, she opted to keep her snow boots on and carry her pumps.
Emily got out and hurried across the parking garage. When she got to the elevator bank, Georgia, her PA, was waiting. She was holding the doors open.
“Thank you. Good morning,” Emily greeted.
“Good morning,” Georgia replied, pushing the button for the 4thfloor.
“So, we’re gonna have quite the day,” Emily warned.
“Aht-aht. You know the rules. We don’t talk work until we get to work,” Georgia said, holding her hand up.
Emily raised a brow at her assistant. “That’s a lie. And… we’re in the building. So, we are at work.”
“We’re in the garage that connects to the building,” Georgia corrected.
“You like this job?”
The question was a fun-loving threat. Fun-loving because Emily depended on Georgia. She couldn’t do the job without her. Georgia laughed. The elevator doors parted, and they exited. They took a ramp to the office building and got on another elevator to the 20thfloor. When the doors opened to the office of Storm and Associates LLP, Emily and Georgia stepped off the elevator.
“Good morning, Miss Storm, Mrs. Williams,” the receptionist greeted.
“Good morning, Haley,” they both returned.
Together they walked down the hall until Georgia broke off to go to her office.
“See you in 10,” Georgia said as she opened her door.
Emily continued to her corner office. She entered the outer office, where her executive assistant sat.
“Yvette, good morning. Any calls?”
“Good morning. I have a few messages,” she said, holding them out for her.
Emily took the messages into her office and sat them on her desk. Yvette entered the office just as Emily removed her coat. She took it and waited as she sat and switched shoes.
“What’s my day looking like?” Emily asked, handing her the boots.
“You have a crazy day ahead.”
“Yeah?” Emily asked, already aware her day would be busy. Her days are always busy.
“Yes, ma’am. We’re shorthanded. You let a lot of folks take today off.”
Emily smiled. “It’s Valentine’s Day.”
Yvette frowned and looked at her through narrowed brown eyes.
“It’s Thursday,” she quipped.
