Lincoln chuckled while chewing. He swallowed and pointed his fork at her. “You certainly didn’t seem that intoxicated when you first saw me.”
“That’s because I thought you were gonna blow my cover.”
He scratched at the masculine stubble on his jaw and frowned as if confused.
“What?” he asked, jokingly puzzled. “I did blow you under the cover. Didn’t I?”
Donna cringed inside when she giggled like a school girl. Lincoln was smart, charming, funny, and gorgeous as all hell. He had a way of bulldozing through a protective wall that had taken years to build. Although she’d had a few breakups, she’d never experienced a broken heart. After watching her sister suffer through a failed marriage, Donna was determined to never allow herself such vulnerabilities. Not that it was even a possibility with Lincoln. He didn’t even live in the same state. And even if he did, his military duties kept him on the move.
Not to mention her career. Sometimes working undercover kept her away for an unreasonable amount of time. No man would put up with that.
With those unrealistic thoughts out of the way, Donna allowed herself to just enjoy a wonderful dinner with a ridiculously hot man.
