Donatella
After Bible study, Donna avoided Clara and Bobby Lee. Although she was a professional, she was still human. After seeing what they’d done to Vera, to all of them, she was struggling to maintain her cover. What she wanted to do was pistol whip Bobby Lee Khal and beat the shit out of Clara. Smiling in either one of their faces would be a challenge. She certainly had a few questions for Clara, questions that were essential to their investigation. For example, where were all the children? Donna had never been to a church that had no children. Finding out why was important to their investigation, but Donna needed a minute. Just a bit of time to get back into character because she was truly ready to hurt someone.
Donna headed toward the chapel exit, which was in the complete opposite direction of where Clara and Bobby Lee were communing with several other members. She smiled and exchanged forced pleasantries with other members on her way out. She was mere seconds from the door when Kelly grabbed her by the arm.
“Where ya going?”
“Outta here before I hurt somebody. Do you know they beat the shit outta Vera because she wouldn’t fuck that blob?”
“What?”
“Yes,” Donna confirmed through gritted teeth.
“Well, it’s a good thing you won’t have to deal with it anymore. We’re outta here.”
She glared at him with a furrowed brow, hoping she’d heard him correctly. “When?”
“Now. Go get your stuff and meet me at the gate north of the pond.”
“Are you serious?”
“Dead ass. We’re done. We have everything we need to put Khal, Clara, Harry, and a few more away for a long time.”
“Yes!” she blurted in hushed celebration.
Kelly grinned and walked out of the door. Donna was right on his heels.
She hurried across the lawn, to her dormitory. She didn’t speak to anyone when she entered and hurried to her room.
She walked inside and searched the small room for Vera. Thankfully, she wasn’t there.
Donna hurried over to her bed and got on all fours. She grabbed her backpack from under the bed and darted around the room, collecting her things. She hadn’t taken much with her, so it didn’t take long to pack.
She tossed the bag over her shoulder and turned to walk out but stopped short of the door. She turned back, walked over to the dresser, and picked up the small box containing the diamond and sapphire necklace.
“He won’t be getting this back,” Donna mumbled under her breath.
Without an ounce of guilt, she stuffed the box in her bag and got the hell out of dodge. With his fake ass, it probably wasn’t real anyway.
