CHAPTER 9

Two Months Later…

LUCA

Luca walked down the never-ending hall in Jack’s estate. If he and Tammy didn't spend so much time in Chicago, constantly seeking shelter from Jack and Victoria, Luca would say the house was too big for four people. But Jack and Victoria were big on family, so they always insisted that he and Tammy stay in their museum of a house whenever they were in town. Luca didn't mind. Even though he disliked the violent city, he enjoyed spending time with his extended family. And for some reason, they seemed to love Chicago.

He rounded the corner, intending to take the stairs down to the gym, but Victoria’s hushed tone slowed his steps. Luca wouldn't normally be concerned with the chatter of women, but she mentioned Francis’ name. Anything that involved the don was his business, so he listened.

“Tracy, are you sure?”

Pause...

“And you're sure it’s his baby? What am I saying? Of course you are.”

Pause…

“Oh my God, Tracy. Are you gonna tell him?”

Pause…

“That’s not cool.”

Pause…

“Fine. I promise, but please think about telling him. He has a right to know that he’s gonna be a father.”

Pause…

“Or not.”

Victoria’s tone was grim, and Luca knew what that meant. Tracy was pregnant and considering terminating her pregnancy.

Luca understood that a woman should make the decisions that concerned her body. But, in his opinion, a woman who wouldn't even give the man a say in the matter was vile and selfish. Tracy wasn't either, so Luca concluded that she wasn't thinking straight. No doubt Francis would handle the situation.
