Victoria could almost smell his anger.
“Am I speaking fucking Portuguese? I said cut her loose!”
The officer grunted his frustration and reached for his cuff key. But when he approached Victoria to take off the cuffs, Jack held out his hand.
“Don’t touch my wife,” he warned. He turned to Natasha. “Tasha, do you have a cuff key?”
“Not on me,” she responded.
“I do,” came from Taylor Montgomery.
Taylor was Victoria and Natasha’s friend from the police department. She was also engaged to Victor Creed, the governor of Illinois. She maneuvered her way through the officers and turned Victoria around to free her wrists from the handcuffs.
“Thanks, Tay,” Victoria muttered. She was embarrassed that their friends and family had witnessed her near incarceration. She had thoroughly embarrassed her man and her family.
“It’s all good, Vic,” Taylor said as she handed the officer his cuffs.
The field lieutenant led the disgruntled officers out of the VIP area. Jack grabbed Victoria’s wrists and massaged the area where they had placed the cuffs.
“Baby, are you okay?” he asked her.
Victoria dropped her head, not wanting to look him in the eye. “I’m so sorry, baby,” she mumbled.
Jack released her wrists and grabbed her face. He forced her to look at him. “Sweetheart, you have nothing to apologize for. If I had walked in on what you walked in on, I would be on death row. Baby, you could burn down the fucking moon, and I’d still have your back. That’s how much I love you.”
“And I love you. And know that I’d willingly do time before I let someone take you away from me. You're mine.”
“And you're mine. Always,” Jack confirmed before placing his lips on hers, reminding Victoria exactly what it was she was fighting for.
