“So why haven’t you joined us for meals over the last couple of weeks?”
“I’ve been working all hours to finish everything for the exhibition.”
“I don’t have your sixth sense, but I don’t think that’s the whole truth, is it?”Smiling, he shook his head.“You don’t have to answer me.Is the painting on your easel the last one?”
“Yes.But I’m going to change it.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s… different from what I normally do.I paint landscapes.”
“So why did you paint that one?”
“You’re full of questions, aren’t you?”
Blue eyes met hers over the rim of his glass.Sighing, she shook her head.“I don’t know.It just flowed from my brush.”
“Why?”
“You’re like a three-year-old, seriously.I’m not answering any more questions about the painting.I’m going to change it.I don’t have to explain anything to you.About your suggestion that I practice on you…”
He put down his glass.“I’m listening.”
“Maybe it’s not a bad idea.”
He slowly got up.“Yeah?”
“Yes.I mean it’s not as if there is really anything between us, but maybe if we spend some time together, I’ll know if I can get anything from a stranger…”
He’d moved and was standing right next to her chair.
“…and also, my mom will think we’re engaged which will keep her off my back for a while, at least.Solving two problems at once.”
He picked up her hand and pulled her up.
“What… what are you doing?”
“Testing your theory that there is nothing between us.”Lacing their fingers together, he pulled her closer.
Oh, my.Those indigo blue eyes were staring right into her very soul.
“There isn’t anything between us.”Her voice was a mere whisper.
“You sure about that?”
Incapable of speaking, she nodded.
He smiled.“Okay, shall we test your theory?”
“How?”
“Now you’re the one asking questions.”
“How do you want to do that?”
“I’m going to kiss you.”
“Why?”
