Goddess help us all when they did.
Chapter Seventeen
Odem
Brother, if they’re collecting those with special gifts, they’re clearly building an army against us.
Aye, I fear the same, Odem. Mattias, can you come to Odem’s? We have news that involves water and ice clans.
On my way.
Quint, Caro, do you have time to meet Ronan’s brother and his companions?
Absolutely, Caro immediately replied. Quint took a few moments, but I knew he was resting before embarking upon the long journey tonight.
“Do you guys have luggage or bags or anything?” Ronan asked them.
“No, we’ve been traveling as light as possible,” Upalo replied. “Is there a hotel in town we can crash at?”
“Absolutely not!” Ronan barked. “We have three empty bedrooms, one for each of you. You can stay as long as you like.”
Shoot, I hope that’s okay, mate.
More than okay, my love. Your happiness is my happiness and family comes first.
Love you.
Love you too.
Upalo smiled. “Thanks, the idea of leaving after just finding you didn’t sit well with me.”
“Let me show you to your rooms. Follow me.” I gave them their pick of the three available rooms and oddly enough, Upalo chose the one Ronan had first claimed.
Your brother found your scent.
Ah, he picked my old room then. I can’t wait for the twins to meet him. To meet all our family. I went from being alone to part of something wonderful. Thanks for knocking me up, big guy.
Oh, how the tides have changed. That appeared to be the line of the century given how many times I’d used it as of late. In this case, it was uttered with nothing but love. Aside from the impending war and all that, my dragon and I had never been happier.
We returned to a full house, both families–Denarius and Drakemyre, were present and accounted for.
“Whoa,” Upalo suddenly stopped. “That’s a lot of people.”
“Come on, brother,” I clapped his shoulder. “Let me introduce you to the fam. Everyone,” I shouted and the room quieted, and pointed to each as I said their name. “Brother-in-law Upalo and his besties, Kes and Canyon. Good luck, guys.” I left them at the base of the stairs to find my mate.
“Host skills you are truly lacking,” Ronan grinned. “But, carrying an overly pregnant mate you excel at. Any chance for a ride to the recliner?”
“Your wish is my command,” I bowed as I scooped him up, receiving a delightful squeal in return. No sooner had I sat in the chair with my mate upon my lap, arms wrapped around him, before Ionus started barking orders.
“Upalo, would it be possible for you to provide exact coordinates to the village you escaped from? Three members of our team are headed there tonight.”
“I’ll do you one better,” Canyon spoke up. “I’ll go with them.”
“Excellent,” Ionus smiled. “Quint, Angus, and Elgin will join you.”
“I’d ask which of the five in the crowd are the protectors but given you tower above the rest of us, I think I have it down,” Upalo said.
“My apologies,” Ionus replied. “I am Ionus, leader and eldest. Caro, Odem, who is mated to your brother, Quint and Mattias.” Mattias stood awfully close to Kes who was…wait, was Kes blushing? “We are the Primordial Protectors, chosen by the Goddess to protect and bring harmony amongst species.”
