I tilted my head, looking at him with different eyes, trying to see if he looked familiar. I drew a blank but assumed we were around the same age and decided not to share that we may have attended the university at the same time.
“Nice.”
I wanted to grill him to find out more about him, but I didn’t want him to do the same to me, so I refrained. In my younger years, I wouldn’t have been opposed to getting a room at the hotel across the street, getting my rocks off, and moving on with my life.
The older me was much more cautious, a lot more guarded, and not nearly as much of a risk-taker. I wasn’t looking for anything to happen between us aside from sharing a few drinks, and we didn’t need to know much about each other to do that.
The silence became awkward, and I looked down at my almost empty glass to avoid his eyes. I could feel the heat from his gaze, and I’d suddenly become hot. I reached into my pursefor the hand fan I kept there and, after flicking it open, began fanning myself.
“I thought you were chilly,” he said, wearing that sexy ass smirk.
“Yeah, well, I guess I’m having a hot flash.”
“Nyomi, do I make you feel flustered?”
He was amused, and I was . . . flustered, just as he suspected. It had been ages since being in the presence of a man made me feel this way. My skin felt like it was buzzing with electricity, and although I did get warm sometimes, I’d never had a real hot flash.
“They umm, they must have turned the air down,” I responded.
My nipples were still hard, my mouth was dry, and there was a puddle forming in the crotch of my panties. I needed to get away from this man before I propositioned him in the most inappropriate way.
We’d barely had a full conversation, and I couldn’t say with 100 percent confidence that I wouldn’t fuck him if the opportunity presented itself. It had to be because it had been five years since I’d been touched by a man. The thoughts I’d been having about Kilo were so out of character for me.
“I don’t think so, baby.”
Why’d he have to go and call me baby?
“I need to use the bathroom. I’ll be right back.”
I scurried away from the table and headed toward the bathrooms, pulling Skye along with me as I was about to pass her.
“Are you okay?” she asked when we reached the bathroom.
I looked in each stall, and once I confirmed they were empty, I told Skye everything.
“Today isn’t my first time seeing Kilo,” I said.
“Why did y’all pretend you’d never met?”
“We weren’t pretending. I saw him yesterday when Nyeem and I went toSoulful Dinerfor dinner. He was picking up food, and we couldn’t take our eyes off each other, but he left without saying anything, so we didn’t actually meet.”
“Look at God! He brought y’all to the same place twenty-four hours later.”
“Skye, you don’t understand. I need to go. I’ll see if they’ll let me sneak out the back. I’ll call Nyeem to?—”
“Hold on, sis. Did I miss something? Is he being disrespectful?”
I shook my head. “No. He’s been nothing but a gentleman, although we haven’t talked about much.”
“I’m confused. What’s the problem?”
“The problem is, I dreamed about his fine ass all damn night. I can’t get the thought of sitting on his face out of my mind. His voice makes me weak, my nipples have been hard since he introduced himself, and my panties are fucking soaked. I gotta get away from his ass.”
Skye began laughing as if I’d told the world’s funniest joke, and I was annoyed by her reaction.
“Sis, you ain’t had sex in five years. Why don’t you let him scratch that itch and move on with your life?” she asked when she finally gathered herself.
“Because,” I whined, dragging the word out.
