“Ha. Real cute.”
I tried to snatch my arm away from him, but he tightened his grip.
“It’s the truth. What can I say to make you believe me? I saw Nyeem’s name on a list that said he was unsigned. I looked him up onThe Tubeand watched his videos. I found his contactinformation in some of the stuff the old coach left and took a chance.”
“My brother told me you reached out to him for Nyeem’s number.”
“I did, but I didn’t know he was Nyeem’s uncle or your brother because I didn’t know Nyeem was your son. At the restaurant, his face was either buried in his plate or his phone. All I noticed about him was that he was young, and I assumed he was your son because I knew you weren’t robbing the cradle like that.”
I gasped and pushed his shoulder.
“I would never!”
“I didn’t think so, but I swear on my granny’s grave, I didn’t see his face. I didn’t set you up, baby.”
“Stop calling me baby. You don’t even know me.”
I took a few steps and bent over to pick up my duffel bag, putting it on my shoulder. When I turned around, I ran right into Kilo because he was on my ass.
“I might not know you as well as I’d like to . . . yet, but I know that pussy.”
My breath betrayed me when it hitched, causing him to smile before continuing to talk directly to my pussy.
“Stop running and let me get to know you and refamiliarize myself with that pussy, although it was so fucking good, I could never forget it, so I doubt it’s necessary.”
The temperature outside was already warm and rising, yet I was covered in goosebumps, and my nipples had hardened underneath my sports bra. I couldn’t move or speak, and when he slipped his index finger underneath my chin and lifted it ever so slightly, my heart raced.
Slowly, his face inched toward mine, and our lips connected. I welcomed his tongue into my mouth, and I moaned as itbecame entangled with mine. His hand gently moved down to my neck and gently squeezed before pulling me closer.
I could have stood there kissing him forever, but his ringing phone pulled me from my trance. I stepped away and turned to continue gathering my things while he answered the call.
As I walked away, I heard a familiar voice and stopped in my tracks before turning around. I held my breath as I listened to the conversation not meant for my ears.
“Good morning, Coach St. Patrick. I’m sorry to bother you so early,” Nyeem said.
“It’s not a problem, and please, call me Coach Kilo.”
“Okay. Umm, I just wanted to call and let you know that I’ve decided to join the football team.”
I released the breath I was holding. Although I already knew what my son had decided, hearing him tell Kilo made it official. Kilo’s eyes met mine, and we remained locked in while he spoke.
“That’s great news. I can’t tell you how excited I am to have you on board. Text me your email, and I’ll have one of our assistants send you the information about your next steps.”
“Will do. Thank you.”
“Nah, son. It’s me who should be thanking you. Welcome to the team.”
“Thanks. I’m sending my email now.”
The call ended, and he slowly walked toward me.
“What do you have against him playing football?”
“I don’t have anything against him playing football. Did you forget he’s already fully committed to another sport that’s just as demanding?”
“I get that, but he’s been a year-round athlete for at least the past four years. This won’t be any different.”
“That’s a lie if I’ve ever heard one, and you know it.”
