Mom nodded and it stopped raining. Melanie growled and the rain started again, harder than it had been. Gage said, “I could’ve mentioned that was a bad call, but that was amusing.” Phil snorted, “Same.” Oden offered, “Me too.”
Mom smirked saying, “I mean we can keep doing that, but Melanie’s really fucking emotional right now. If I make it stop, my daughter in law might bring hail next time. Just let her come back to herself before we stop the rain.” Uncle Aiden shrugged.
Melanie ripped the guy’s vocal cords out and dropped him with severe force. Gage winced, “I heard things breaking from that fall.” The man was clutching his throat as he died. My wife grabbed the woman next to him with her bloody hands. Damn. That was hot.
Melanie snarled, “HOW MANY?!” The woman wisely answered, “Fifty. The Goblins were supposed to be a distraction, but they didn’t last long enough. We hoped if we took out the mates of the King and Crown Princess they would be devastated. That was when we could conquer the Earth Territories and work towards the rest from there.”
Melanie snarled, “So, the fact that the King’s sister is the best healer in all of Faerie’s history didn’t factor into your plan? Or the fact that my mate is the second best? LIAR! You are a LIAR… who THINKS YOU CAN INSULT MY INTELLIGENCE! I AM A GENIUS…. YOU NITWIT!”
Phil warned, “Sierra says when Melanie starts shouting about being a genius, nothing good follows for the people questioning her intelligence.” Gage whispered, “Technically speaking, no one did.” Kingsley snorted, “They did by lying to her and thinking she would accept their lie.”
Angelique giggled, “Plus, they insulted her Xander. IT IS ON SIGHT PEOPLE! Insulting Mel’s Xander and his family? Whew, these people are dead dead. Get the body bags ready. Not all because I’ll be burning bodies, that’s my job.” Kingsley and Angelique smirked at each other.
Mom popped next to Melanie. EJ came over to me commenting, “You appear to be in shock.”
I said, “As our cousin pointed out, my mate looks like a glow stick. LOOK at my wife’s eyes.” Oden offered, “It’s normal for Freya.” Well, it wasn’t to us yet.
EJ said, “Yes, I see that.” Hastein chimed in, “We all see that.” Grandpa Titus asked, “Are you alright, Alexander?” I said, “I felt pain for a few seconds before my watch administered Laxenread to me. Which was really cool. It clearly monitors biometrics.”
Uncle Bjourn said, “That is cool. I need you all to have those.” Kingsley snickered, “They all have them. You’ll just have to remind Melanie she has them.” I cleared my throat, “Plus, it wasn’t my anger you felt go around the bond.” Hastein asked, “Are you serious?”
I answered, “Very serious. Melanie was so angry that it went through my connection with her, then all throughout every single one I have. It wasn’t even that bad of a shot, it was a graze.” Kingsley snorted, “Men.” Angelique said, “Seconded.” I asked, “What?”
Angelique tilted her head before commenting, “K, I think he’s serious.” Kingsley answered, “He is. They all don’t get it.” Hastein said, “Then explain it to us please, Cupcake.” Kingsley sighed, “For starters, you’d be pissed if Mel was bleeding Alexander.”
Ok, that was true. Kingsley continued, “Besides the fact you would have zero chill if Melanie took a graze to the shoulder, your mate has sworn to never see anyone she loves get shot, ever again. You getting shot is like the worst case scenario. I’m sure she flashed back to the night she was kidnapped.” I winced.
Dad walked over muttering, “Dylan is NEVER going to shut up about missing this. He said in order for Melanie to calm down you need to touch her, son. Or, apparently, she’s going to go off and electrocute trees and the surrounding area. Which Dylan is of course is on board for.” I rolled my eyes.
I popped to Melanie and wrapped my arms around her. I linked my mate, “I’m fine. I barely felt the graze. I didn’t know until I felt the burn in my veins. Laxenread was in my system because of this amazing watch, and my mom healed it.”
Melanie snarled in my head, but the glow dimmed. I kissed her forehead, “Laxenread worked just like you wanted it to. I’m intrigued the watch was monitoring me enough to know that. I’m amazed by your intelligence and what you’ve done with that serum.”
Mom said, “I have the names, brother. Let’s go kick some fucking ass.” Aiden snorted, “Let’s.” Melanie growled, “We are coming too.” Uncle Aiden smiled at her agreeing, “I mean having a mate of my nephew’s lit up like a light bulb can’t hurt. Plus, it’s fun.”
I saw my brother grab my Hackura family. Melanie was still glowing, but not as brightly. My wife’s eyes were still white, but the hint of pale green was there. I popped her back to the party. The guests gasped over her appearance.
Uncle Aiden said, “We already know who you are, but I will give you a chance to kneel now. You betrayed the crown and went against the promised siblings. You allowed Goblins into the realm, you worked with our enemy, the Ring, and you tried to kill the Queen and Future King.” Gasps echoed around the party.
A few kneeled immediately which had Melanie snarling at them. One begged, “Mercy, my King! Please.” Before anyone could say anything bolts shot out of Melanie’s hands. The man fell over dead at my uncle’s feet.
My wife snarled in unison with her wolf, “There’s your mercy.” EJ linked, “Damn. Don’t piss off a goddess wolf with special powers. Remind your mate she’s always liked me.” I gave him a look and gently kissed Melanie’s forehead again.
Aiylee lit several people on fire along with Uncle Aiden. Mom called her wind and threw specific people into the walls and called to the vines to trap them. Aiylee walked over to one of the ones kneeling. My cousin demanded to know, “Why? You know you can’t overthrow us. We are the prophesized family.”
The man looked up at her then said, “Long live the O’Toole’s.” My eyes widened in shocked. Several people gasped and flutes of champagne shattered. It had been centuries since someone dared utter the name of the last ruling family before ours.
I linked EJ, “Didn’t they all die? I thought we were hunting down people like Ariena, that worked with them when they lived here. Not that still did and due to this day.” EJ replied, “I’m getting the sense, they did not all die.”
Melanie stormed forward and yanked the man’s belt off. I snarled then gaped as the man’s real face was revealed. Uncle Aiden scoffed, “Desperi O’Toole.” Desperi looked at Melanie sneering, “You’re new. That was not a Fairy charm so how did you know?” My wife’s hand lit up again.
I grabbed her hand quickly and kissed her. I linked Melanie, “We need answers. You can’t kill him just yet, my little goddess in training.” When I pulled back her eyes were back to normal and weren’t glowing anymore.
Gage linked, “You didn’t go with kissing her as OPTION A?! ALEXANDER, WHAT THE HELL?!” I replied, “I did it now, lesson learned.” Melanie shakily said, “He’s not Desperi. So… he’ll be a descendant.” Uncle Aiden replied, “Desperi was unaccounted for in our histories. I believe he lives.”
Melanie sighed, “I know Desperi is dead.” Huh? Phil linked, “Say what now?” Gage linked, “I’m sorry, what? She knowssomething your uncle doesn’t?” EJ linked me, “Did Ladybug kill Desperi?” Uncle Aiden snorted, “Of course you do. Let me guess Charles killed him.” Melanie nodded. Oden growled in my head.
I linked my Gamma and Beta, “That obnoxious, annoying Vampire!” Phil replied, “You forgot helpful. He’s out there killing O’Toole’s. Charles finally has a purpose other than driving me insane.” Gage snorted, “It does make him marginally more likeable.” Not really.
