Sierra snorted, “Ok, just preparing for the tidal wave of emotion from everyone else when you to declare yourself the Resistance leader and emailing those that know a warning in code.” I grumbled, “I AM A GENIUS! TWENTY I.Q. points Si….OVER TWENTY!” Sierra replied, “I know, trust me.”
Ezra prattled on, “Not people smart… but book smart. I’m sure they used the hell out of you. You’re just a cute little member in the Resistance.” I yelled, “IN IT? JUST A LITTLE MEMBER? THE RESISTANCE DOESN’T USE PEOPLE OR THEIR GRIEF! I AM A FREAKING GOOD PERSON! WHY DOES NO ONE UNDERSTAND THAT?”
“I WOULD NEVER USE MY FRIENDS! I AM NOT JUST IN THE RESISTANCE I AM THE RESISTANCE! I’M THELEADER! I RUN THE WHOLE DAMN THING! I STARTED IT! IT’S MINE AND YOU DUMB PEOPLE GAVE ME THE RALLYING CHARGE WHEN YOU MADE ME BELIEVE MY FAMILY DIED AT THEIR HANDS THEN CAME AFTER MY FREAKING MATE!”
Freya linked, “Good call on telling Xander before this. I get it though, this sad excuse of a man is HIGHLY insulting and annoying. Plus, you’ve wanted to throw that in his face for years and I was about to myself if I’m being honest.” My wolf was right.
Ezra whispered, “No.” He paused then screamed, “NO!” I smiled, “I told you… I’m your linchpin and you pulled me. Which set off a chain reaction. You gave me insight into the Ring, and I took it. I’ve been slowly and systematically shutting them down piece by piece.”
“You should be glad you’re here Ezra. Because those behind the Ring are smart enough to figure out… I just might be in the Resistance. What do you think they would do to you if you were out there in the world walking about and they realized that?”
Ezra frowned. I pointed out, “They tossed you away, even you have to know that. They sent you at Alpha Theo knowing you would ultimately fail. You might have killed some of their pack, but you weren’t going to keep it even if you managed to take it.”
I mocked him, “The Ring cut their losses to punish you, and you don’t even see it. You’re better off here than with them. Which is sad. Because the torture you will endure here… is next level. You can count on seeing Alpha Lucas and Alpha Theo.”
“I hope you even see Felicia because she deserves justice. She deserves to know the man she thought was kind and her friend… was spelled to lose his mind. He wasn’t even himself anymore by the time he raped her.”
“You let them trap him inside his own mind, watching his actions as his body was overtaken. The poor man. I honestlycannot imagine how horrible, and sick, he felt watching all that happen to him. I’ll have Paige study the spell you wrote down.”
“So, thanks for that. Maybe Paige can find the counter to it. It messes with the soul and mind, so Haley and Emmaline can probably fix it as well. You’re disgusting.” I walked up to the bars and slammed him into them by grabbing his shirt, so I could punch him in the face.
I said, “That’s for Alpha Theo.” I brought my elbow into his eye socket, “And that’s for my friend Lux who never got to meet his uncle because you’re a petty jerk.” I was so angry. Freya said, “We need to shift.” I was shaking so I took off running outside.
Xander linked me, “Where are you going?” I answered, “Freya said we need to shift.” Xander chuckled, “Alright. The room on my end is in shock so I’ll pop to you and join that run.” I made it to the top of the steps before I shifted.
Freya took off running and Xander popped beside me. We ran for several miles in wolf form before I shifted back and ran in human form. Xander did the same. Eventually I went to my knees. Xander patted my back commenting, “That was quite the announcement.”
I sighed, “The one where I set up a meeting with my boss and walked in alone was funnier.” Xander said, “I don’t know about that. This way was pretty epic.” We stood up and Xander grabbed my hand. He popped us back to the house.
We walked in the front door. Everyone was waiting. Dad spoke first, “We need to talk.” Oh boy… they looked mad. In for a penny in for a pound I suppose. Freya said, “There’s something else going on. Their wolves are proud of us.” Yeah, but I was in danger again and they never liked that.
Out in the Open
Alexander stepped through the portal with gold eyes. I linked Oden asking, “Can we block our feelings from Mel without pulling back? I don’t want her to panic about not being able to feel us, but I’m too angry right now. She shouldn’t have to deal with this.”
Oden said, “We can push them down like we can with everyone else, but Freya can help make it better for mate. I’ll let her know.” I sighed in relief, “Thank you, Oden.” Oden answered, “Mate was sheltered, Alexander. Freya keeps saying that to me.”
That pulled me up short. I asked my wolf, “What?” Oden advised, “Just remember that.” EJ asked, “Why are you suddenly confused, little brother? You’re mostly angry, but now you feel puzzled too.” I sighed, “Oden wanted me to remember Melanie was sheltered because Freya keeps saying it to him. I have no fucking clue why.”
Drake answered, “Melanie makes friends easily, but she doesn’t always grasp social cues. My daughter is quite literally a genius, and this next part is my fault.” I asked, “What part?” Drake sighed, “Melanie doesn’t understand why you are upset about a male teaching her to hack or drive. She doesn’t understand why the thing with Lux was a big deal either.”
I frowned arguing, “She’s a Werewolf.” Drake replied, “I know but she didn’t see Peter or me in the setting around people who flirted with Sam or Chelsea. Melanie was at competitions, but she wasn’t around other packs at big meetings.”
“No one in our pack was going to challenge us for our mates. So, it’s not like Ladybug had that to see how we’d react. We were respected and parents either worshipped us at competitions or didn’t want to talk to us because our daughter is so talented.Melanie heard you went after Two Peaks, and I’m guessing she knew it was about her.”
EJ answered, “Charlene told her, and Elise confirmed it.” Drake nodded, “Well, that whole thing makes so much sense now. Melanie will see that differently because they were trying to hurt her. She’s heard about Alpha’s being possessive, but there’s a difference between hearing and seeing.”
“Logically, in her mind there’s only ever been you. So, she doesn’t see the problem. She went to Black Path, and they don’t appear to do anything right by their mates. They cheat on them and keep them secluded.”
“I seriously doubt they get possessive over their mates. Hell, they probably offered them up to people that found them attractive. It’s my fault Melanie never saw those things while she was with us. I sheltered her too much. Just try to give my daughter some understanding there. It’s not her fault.”
I sighed because his argument made sense. I explained, “I’m not mad at her. The situation just upsets me.” Drake acknowledged, “I understand. I just want you to know why Mel doesn’t understand.” I nodded knowing Oden and Drake were right.
I just had more possessiveness in my veins than the average Alpha. I had Fairy and Hackura blood running through my veins, as well as wolf. People thought Fairies weren’t possessive over people, but our family proved that was wrong.
The Fairies had just denied their lights and feelings for so long people forgot that Fairies were covetous of what was theirs. I saw my Uncle Logan waiting outside a house. He must have gone ahead of the group.
My uncle smirked at us and Micah nodded to him. Uncle Logan knocked on the door. A Demon opened up and threw Yuri out in chains. The Demon smiled saying, “Always a pleasure, Prince Logan. We killed the Demons hiding him for you as well.”
