I growled, “Not that bad?! Cracked ribs are NOT good.” Melanie said, “In the grand scheme of things it’s not that bad. People who play sports can get cracked ribs. We should go check on everyone. I want to make sure Destiny and Demi are ok… along with everyone else that was freed.”

Good god. My wife was really off the subject just like that. I linked my Beta and Gamma, “You better circulate to Melanie’s friends I DO NOT AGREE THAT CRACKED RIBS ARE NO BIG DEAL!” Gage whistled while Phil groaned.

I kissed my mate again. I agreed, “Fine, but you’re not leaving my sight for at least the next hour. I know you pulled those twowomen to your white wolf plane to find them.” Melanie sighed, “I’m very disappointed in myself that I didn’t think of that sooner. I want to pull Odette… but I can only pull wolves.”

“I strongly suspect she’s a partial… but no on agrees with me. I don’t want to hurt her if I try to pull her and Odette can’t come because she’s not a wolf… but I’m pretty sure she was. It was a whole group argument. The point is, we know Odette is something besides a wolf, I just don’t know what… and everyone debates that I’m wrong about her being a wolf. I wish I had Freya when I met Odette.”

I frowned asking, “Odette?” Melanie answered, “She’s a singer that sometimes performed with us… I can’t find her. I’m supposed to be a dang genius… and I can’t find someone who really needs me.” I hugged her tightly.

I consoled my now very sad mate, “Hey, you are a genius. If anyone can find Odette, it will be you. If you think she’s a partial Werewolf, that’s honestly good enough for me.” Melanie sighed, “Right? My friends could be wrong since we know now that wolves can be suppressed. I don’t know.” I said, “Unless she’s your age, that’s not it. The Werewolf world only went down once.” Melanie muttered, “I’m older than her.”

My wife waved, “I know she’s definitely something, but she has no clue she’s a Supernatural. Odette thinks she’s human, and I didn’t get the chance to tell her the truth because… her evil mother took her away. Odette feels like family too.” Great.

Another mate for a family member of mine that we needed to track down. I could guarantee Cayden already had people looking for Odette because he’d wanted leverage over Melanie. Which meant the Hackura couldn’t find this girl either. Just freaking perfect because that sounded like magic prevented it from happening.

I linked Uncle Gunner, “Are you looking for Odette?” Uncle Gunner said, “I have people assigned and I’ve set up preliminarysearches. Katie believes magic is holding us back, and I have to agree.” Well, at least we were all on the same page.

I held Melanie close to me and took several deep breaths. My mate whispered, “I’m fine. This really was nothing.” I told her, “I hate that you believe that. I felt your pain. That was a big facility that you went into. With as little recon and research you did for it, you HAD to have known about it prior to today.”

Melanie nodded, “I did.” I pushed my point, “But you never tried to get in. Which means you either couldn't, or you were going in somewhat blind because Nate is important to you.” Melanie frowned, “Well, Nate is my friend.”

I hummed, “Exactly.” Melanie argued, “Destiny and Demi deserved to stop suffering. Along with everyone else there. No one deserves to be treated like that. Plus, it will piss off the Ring that we got in… it was their most impenetrable defense thus far.”

I pointed out, “It was a risk.” Melanie admitted, “A calculated one. The number of people that would rise up to help me, if I needed it, is not a small a number. God, that sounded braggy… it’s not… really, I swear. But if people heard I needed help… a lot of people would come to my aid.” I believed that.

I admitted, “I worry about your boss.” Melanie asked, “Umm what? Why?” My mate’s heart was racing. Oden offered, “Freya locked up too.” Weird. I explained, “You react from the heart. Yes, this mission was a success. I’m sure Uncle Gunner and Micah got a lot from what you sent them. You also freed many people. Your motivations were to save Destiny and Demi though. Destiny clearly wasn’t with Demi.”

Melanie acknowledged, “No, Destiny was in Canada.” I sighed, “Fabulous. You command people impressively. I worry your boss is eventually going to be upset about the liberties you take. Kingsley was there and she’s supposed to be in Missouri. The people she’s with clearly wanted to make sure she wasn’t involved in what went down today.”

Melanie reasoned, “Kingsley wanted to come. Plus, we have Demons who help us get around. She would’ve been back even without meeting H. Besides, her boss didn’t ask those people to check on her because he works with me.” I already knew that, but someone sent that person.

I sighed, “Sometimes people in power don’t care about that. In their minds you could’ve jeopardized that position with the Vampires after pulling her from Spain.” Melanie argued, “I didn’t pull K from Spain, and I didn’t even pull her into this. Plus, there’s really no reason to worry about my boss. It will be perfectly fine. I promise. I mean really… beyond fine.” She believed that.

I clarified, “I worry about you. You’re protecting so many people, but you’re not looking out for yourself. I’m your mate so I’ll do that for you. I’m just apprehensive about the person in the shadows I can’t see. I need to know if they are going to act against you because I need to be ready.”

Melanie said, “Ok… the person in the shadows… would be the Ring. Not my boss… and I’ve got a little jump on the Ring right now. We all do since now we know the Supernatural Council’s files are compromised.”

I snorted, “I mean the shadow of your boss.” Melanie brushed off my concern, “Don’t worry about my boss.” I countered, “I’m going to.” Melanie groaned, “Oh come on! I’m telling you it’s fine… me, the rambling nonsensical person… at times anyway. It really is fine. I swear.”

I kissed her before acknowledging, “I’m not the only one who is worried.” Melanie frowned, “But I’m telling you it’s fine. Trust me… like beyond fine. No one is going to be upset with me… about the things I do.”

My wife paused then admitted, “Ok… that’s not true. No big bad is going to come for me because of the things I do… because they don’t know who I am… and my boss isn’t… umm bad.Mason and Hendrick…. No, the whole group sometimes yells at me for the decisions I make in the field…. but that’s it. So I guess people do get mad… but again… it was the most logical path that had the best success rate. Plus, it worked…. I really don’t see the problem.”

I laughed, “You really don’t, do you?” Oden said, “Freya confirms mate does not even slightly get it.” Melanie said, “No. It worked. Everyone got out and everyone came home.” I sighed. Melanie asked, “Can you pop us to Nate? I just want to make sure Demi and Destiny are ok before my parents descend on me …. like angry wolves.”

I snorted, “They will not be alone.” Melanie winced, “I didn’t know you guys were going to see it. Not that it would’ve changed anything I did but… I still didn’t know you could see it… while I was doing it.” I laughed, “Come on.”

I popped us to Nate. He was with Demi and Destiny in the pack hospital. Demi had been healed. I linked mom, “Do I need to heal anyone?” Mom answered, “No, your dad is making me eat an insane amount of food. It’s like he thinks I am how I was when we first met.” I would’ve gone to her if the bond had pulled me, but it didn’t.

Mom continued, “I want to scream at him HELLO?! I’m one of the promised siblings and I’m becoming a goddess. Clearly, I’m fucking fine. Would he listen? No. Because your dad is a damn stubborn Alpha male.”

I snorted, “Don’t overdo it, mom.” My mom grumbled, “According to your dad, I already did that.” I couldn’t help but smile. I loved my parents love story. I replied, “He knows I’d have shown up if you were waning. The bond never pulled me.” Mom shouted, “EXFUCKINGACTLY!”

I linked Chason, KJ, and Fowler, “Are you still in the main house?” Chason answered, “We are still in your office. Fowlerhas gotten increasingly more fidgety and weird.” KJ chuckled, “Young people don’t get it.” Huh?

I ordered them all, “Come to the hospital. That’s where Melanie and I are.” Chason replied, “Thank god. Fowler is going to drive my wolf up a tree, and the McAlister’s are pissed.” Of course they were. I didn’t have pups, but if I watched either of my sisters do the things Melanie had done, I’d be irate.

Destiny and Demi jumped off the bed. Demi whispered, “It’s you.” Both women ran at my mate, they all hugged, then the sisters started crying. Demi pulled back first and wiped her face groaning, “God, you think my wolf would be more chill now that we are safe but she’s so amped up.”
