Freya snorted, “Then he drank bars out of their liquor.” Well… that was true. I knew he had in Red Run for a fact because my dad owned the bar. I stretched then laughed as it all came back to me. I was going to start a bakery with Karina. That would be fun.
Freya said, “You made her and her wolf’s night. She’s really excited.” Good. It was a really good idea. I would have an outlet to use my need to cook for good…. For a business even. I could still do all my regular Luna duties and extra things.
All while Karina ran the business and we could hire people from the pack to work there and help her. Now, I just needed to find us a building. I opened my laptop, surprised to see a reminder blinking at me. I frowned and clicked it.
I gasped because there was a Luna meeting in Kentucky and I was late. Oh my god! My first meeting with a bunch of neighboring Luna’s and I was late. Great. That wasn’t going to leave a great impression with everyone. I couldn’t believe no one told me.
Xander and I linked while I explained I was running late. I’d have to use the Resistance holoport. I was going to wear pants because I needed my motorcycle. I’d never gotten into an accident on a motorcycle. I grabbed some jeans and a turtleneck.
I linked Sierra and Abigail, “Umm… you guys are supposed to wake me up for meetings and stuff.” Abigail laughed, “It was the day after your birthday. Everyone agreed to let you sleep in. It was so sweet.” Sierra agreed, “Weird but sweet. We went with it.” Ok, that was logical.
I was about to leave when my computer dinged, signaling an alert. I growled, “Not now! I do not have time for this right now. I need these people to like me! Why does the universe hate me? What have I done to piss off the universe this much? I do goddesses jobs… the universe should ADORE me!” I grabbed my computer and groaned.
The Luna meeting was going to be attacked. I grumbled, “Where was my vision about this, Freya?” Freya sighed, “We don’t get visions about everything.” Of course not. I saw EJ had sent out an emergency meeting text. Good… he already knew.
I frowned reading it, because that was not how EJ talked. No… wait. That was wrong. EJ would be going to Elise if he knew, not texting people to meet in his office. I bit my lip knowing I needed to figure this out. I sat down and realizedthey’d piggy backed onto EJ’s phone. They weren’t keeping the connection, so it wasn’t hacked. It was just a blip.
I smirked, “Got you, jerks!” I sent that information to Micah, ran outside, and hopped on my bike. I called Micah using my helmet. My brother in law answered, “Melanie, this email….” I interrupted, “They are piggy backing for a brief minute. That’s why people can’t figure it out. They just need a minute… maybe thirty seconds. Can you run that down?”
Micah started talking but then Xander linked me. I tried to briefly explain to him. Micah’s sharp tone came through my phone, “Mel?” I told him, “It’s hard to talk on the phone and link at the same time.” Micah said, “I’ll send people to the girls and you.”
I pointed out, “I’m probably the only one that can get in or EJ would already be there. They have to know that. Maybe he is already there… but I feel like Xander would’ve said something.” Micah cursed, “Shit! You’re right.”
I asked, “Why aren’t you there?” Micah snorted, “Some wolves don’t invite me to things because I’m not a woman.” Now I was pissed. I said, “Well, next time… you’re coming, because I will personally bring you. You’re the Alpha Male of Max’s pack. You should be involved in these things if you want to be.”
Micah laughed, “You just take places by storm don’t you, Melanie Conners?” I said, “I do what’s right and everyone else can fall in line. Or…. I make them.” Micah said, “Haley would if we told her about it.” I grumbled, “You guys have got to tell her stuff… it’s fine… I’m here… and I’ll tell her.” I hung up the phone.
I went through the holoport to Nashville, then sped off to our holoport that led to Kentucky. I came over the hill to see everyone outside. What happened to conference rooms? Why are they just outside? My watch beeped again.
For goodness sake, I did not have time for this crap right now. I came to a screeching halt then read the read out. I sent an alertto everyone with a watch because there was a sniper. A sniper that was going for Buttercup.
The ultimate goal of this attack was kidnapping Haley and faking her death. Why? Who the hell knew? This was practically suicide. My friends shouted for everyone to get down, thankfully Buttercup did too.
I sighed in relief until I saw someone running and screaming for Buttercup. I rolled my eyes at the Ring. Like that was going to work when Buttercup didn’t know that guy. I gunned my motorcycle back to life when Buttercup called him dad.
OH, COME ON! That was obviously not Dylan Frost. Why would he be here? Stupid Witches. Freya linked, “You’re right. It’s Witches, but how did you know it wasn’t a Fairy charm? You couldn’t see through the Witch disguises until today. Our powers are coming faster.” She seemed quite proud of that fact.
I told her, “They wouldn’t use a Fairy charm, because there are too many people with Fairy blood here who can see it. Haley is here somewhere, and she’s their ultimate target. If she knew that someone had a Fairy charm on… she wouldn’t help them.”
“She’d be cautious. Ok… well… Blade could be cautious. Haley’s pure of heart so … caution really isn’t in her genetic makeup. Hopefully, she’s inside. Maybe she will stay there. Or Blade will keep her there… maybe she has no view outside.”
Freya snorted, “Sure. That’s a thing.” I grumbled, “It could be a thing! There are rooms inside without a view of this crap show happening. Let me have the small probability that she doesn’t see it... when it’s statistically unlikely.” Freya said, “I could but you know it won’t happen.” My wolf was right. I did know that.
First things first, save Buttercup. Let the person pretending to Dylan get his via the sniper and save Haley. Buttercup was running for her not dad, that she thought was her dad. I couldn’t blame her. She thought that guy was Dylan, and I’d do the same in her shoes.
I’d probably punch myself in the face… well in Buttercup’s shoes… for what I was about to do too. I jumped off my bike and ran full speed at Buttercup. I tackled her and heard the man get shot. Buttercup was screaming as I dragged her away.
My sister in law turned to me once we reached cover pleading, “Go get him! You have to save him too! That’s my dad!” I grabbed her by the shoulders, “I promise you that’s not your dad. He’s got some Witch thing on. It’s not Dylan though. Think about it… why would your dad be here?”
Buttercup wiped tears away and whispered, “His show is here.” I reasoned, “His show in Black Mountain and Blue Moon too. Your dad actually does still work. They call him former Beta Dylan, but he does all the paperwork with Lucas for the Werewolf Council.”
“So, your dad does have a lot to do. He’s still an acting Beta for a Werewolf Council member. I’m sure he was planning to use today to do that. Plus, your mom doesn’t have any masterclasses or a deadline she’s working on… which I totally don’t know… that was a guess?”
Buttercup whispered, “You’re right. Thank you for lying and making me smile.” I said, “You’re welcome? And again… that man isn’t your dad, I promise.” Buttercup nodded then paled. I turned to see where she was looking.
Haley had popped to the fake Dylan. I screamed at her a second too late. Seriously? LINK PEOPLE MELAINE! THINK FASTER! Freya said, “Let’s not be so harsh to ourselves.” UGH! Where the hell was my annoying vision of this?? How does that dumb power work? Maybe Angela could help with that.
The guy was going to stab Haley. Really? I know that he knows that everyone knows they don’t want to kill her. Freya snorted, “You know the plan is to fake her death.” I replied, “You can do that without STABBING HER! Why is every bad guy… so much dumber than I am? It hurts my brain.”
