Once the rage slips in…

Things get ugly fast.

But I also know I’m not a threat to Charlotte or Lukas.

Who knows, maybe I’m delusional, but it seems like she’s starting to trust me. She didn’t scream or slap my hands away when I picked her up.

Having her face only inches from mine is dangerous. It’s been more than five years since I’ve been this close to a woman, and I’ve never ached to kiss one the way I yearn to slam her back against the wall and kiss her senseless.

Instead, I take off for the stairs.

Miriam and Lucky are stretched out on the couch when we make it into the room. The boy sleeps with his head on a throw pillow and the blanket from the back of the couch over him.

Charlotte stretches her legs like she wants me to put her down, but I’m enjoying having her wrapped around me too much for that.

“Nuh-uh,” I grunt, nodding to the couch. “He’s napping. Miriam won’t leave his side.”

“We’re fine,” Miriam says. “My shows are about to come on.”

I chuckle. “She always takes a break to watch her favorite soap operas.”

“He still has accidents while he sleeps…” Charlotte looks over her shoulder, and I take a few steps and twist us to the side to make it easier for her to see.

“Wouldn’t you know, I potty trained both Patrick and Cormac,” Miriam says softly. “I’ll keep an eye on him. If he starts moving around, I’ll take him straight to the bathroom. Or if it’ll make you feel more comfortable, I can run and get a towel to put under him.”

“I just don’t want him to destroy the couch…” Charlotte says.

“Pee is far from the worst bodily fluid that I’ve scrubbed out of the furniture in this house.” Miriam laughs.

That woman needs to come with a censor button. She doesn’t stop chuckling, even when she spots the glare I shoot her way.

“Are you sure you don’t mind?” the omega asks.

“We’re perfect.” Miriam brushes her hand through Lucky’s hair. “Go and have whatever important talk the four of you need to have. We’ll be here when you’re done. If he wakes up asking for you, I promise I’ll come find you.”

I nod and grunt a quick “thank you” before taking off toward the downstairs office.

The longer Miriam speaks, the more she can embarrass the three of us.

“I really feel like I should be out there watching my kid,” Charlotte says with a huff.

I chuckle, nuzzling my beard to the side of her head. “He’s asleep. He won’t even know the difference. Miriam is amazing with kids. If he does wake up, she’ll get him a drink and come find us. I know you’re used to doing everything on your own, but I swear, the world won’t stop turning if you accept a little help now and then.”

Cormac leans against the bookcase on the far wall. He does a double take when he spots Charlotte in my arms, and I fight the urge to smirk.

I could tote her sexy little ass around with me all day and never get tired. I especially love the way she tucked her feet behind my ass and the way her tits push against my chest as we move. Though, she does have to pull her feet down as I prepare to take a seat in one of the two club chairs on this side of the desk.

See, it’s meant to be.

With Patrick in his chair behind the desk, once Cormac takes a seat, there will be no other options.

Charlotte is clearly meant to sit on my lap. That way, I’ll be able to comfort her if anything stressful comes up.

I have no choice but to put her on her feet while I get settled in the chair. Once I’m seated, I grab her hips, spin her back to me, and pull the startled omega down. I stretch back in the chair, looping her legs over mine. It forces her to recline against my chest, and I plant a hand on her middle.

“You good?” I ask as she squirms around my lap.

“Yeah, but I can stand up if I’m too heavy. Or take the other chair.”
