“Let her go, Elgene,” one of the men at the table interjected.
“Fuck off, Russell.”
All three men stood up.Elgene’s lips flattened in annoyance.
“We will tell you this one more time,” one of the other men said.“Let her go.Or we’ll talk to your lord.”
“We’ll talk later,” she spat.Elgene let go of her and flounced away.
Adalyn sighed in relief and looked at her arm.Four drops of blood had formed where the nails, or more precisely claws, had gripped.
“Are you all right?”Russell asked.
Adalyn looked up to see both women had joined the men, standing like a united front.“Yes.I’ve had worse injuries.Thank you all so much.”
“You’re Lord Huntley’s thrall, right?”
“Yes.News travels fast.”
They all grinned.
“Elgene was going to be his thrall years ago, but she couldn’t keep her legs closed.Still can’t if you ask me, but her vampire doesn’t seem to care.”
“Well, her stupid decision was my gain.”Adalyn wondered if Gareth knew that Elgene, along with being money-hungry, had also slept around.“She’s a fool.”
“Yep,” Russell agreed.“Watch your back.”
Chapter Fourteen
When the knock camethat evening, butterflies erupted. She ran a nervous hand down the bodice of her dress, hoping Gareth liked how she looked.Hoping that she wouldn’t embarrass him in front of all his peers.Taking a deep breath, she opened the door.
Dressed entirely in black, Gareth devastated all her senses and a slew of dirty images rolled through her head. All of them centered around getting naked with the handsome vampire in front of her.
“You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen,” he said softly.“How did I get so lucky?”
“I was about to say the same thing.Only with man instead of woman.”
