Chapter Four

“You got some nervecalling me,” Lucifer said, and the ice could be felt all the way through the phone call.

“I’m calling because we got an eyewitness that came forward.”Saint leaned back in his chair.

“A real one or someone you coerced into being one?”Derision colored his tone.“Are you about to accuse me of taking the product and money?”

“No,” Saint answered calmly.“The shooter came from the gas station.”

There was a moment of silence.“Are you saying this was a hit?”

“Someone we know planned this. They knew the location and what we were carrying, because the money was taken while we were shooting at each other.”

“A diversion.”

“Exactly,” Saint said.“I’m taking a leap of faith that you had no idea this was gonna happen.”

“I didn’t,” Lucifer stressed.

Saint heard the intensity in his voice, although he didn’t want to exonerate the Devil’s prez just yet.“Someone did.Either from your camp or mine to steal the money.”

“A traitor,” Lucifer snarled.“I can’t believe someone would have the balls to pull a stunt like this.”

“Agreed,” Saint said.“Listen, we need to keep one another in the loop.Whatever we find out, we’ll tell each other.”

“A temporary truce.”

“Deal.”

Without anything more to say, he hung up.Leaning back in his desk chair, his mind raced.Despite saying to share info, he kept the money’s recovery a secret.Best not lay all the eggs in one basket. He wanted to say the traitor had to be from Lucifer’s club, but mistrust wormed itself into his mind.He picked up his phone once more and clicked on the video one of his men sent last night after they tailed Kira, trying to figure out if he missed something.

He had to admit, she surprised him.The woman had nerves of steel in order to swing that baseball bat, and it even made him wince when it connected to the asshat’s face.He couldn’t see any subterfuge and her words were delivered with harsh condemnation, but it still confused him why she didn’t keep the money.Or take some of it.So, was she wise to not fuck with the Sons, or did she have a bigger plan and this stunt was to lure him into trusting her?Time would tell, but in the meantime, he’d send Sinn to win her over. His brother was a smooth operator when it came to women.

Turning off his phone, he rose and headed to church.Sinn waited for him, leaning against the doorframe when he opened it.He stuck a cigarette between his lips.

“For now, let’s keep the reason why our visitor from last night showed up.”
