“Or wall,” Jasper added.
I winced and dropped to my knees, clutching my side. “Ow,” I hissed.
Bastian was at my side a moment later with a healing potion, bringing it to my lips and helping me carefully drink it. The wound continued to throb, and I moved my hand long enough for us to see that it had not closed.
“That hasneverhappened before.” I swallowed hard, shaking my head.
“Let's bandage it,” Silas said, going back into the room to rummage through the things we had.
“What were you cut with?” Jasper asked, kicking the assassins’ dead bodies as he searched for a weapon.
“I think it was a bone dagger. There were three daggers, but only the bone seemed to really hurt my side,” I muttered, shaking my head.
Silas came back and kneeled on the floor next to Bastian. “We need to treat it if it’s not healing.”
“Okay.” The bath chambers were heavy with the scent of blood and steamy water as I pressed against my side to try and stop the bleeding from the deep gash.
“Move your hand, muse. I'm going to look at it now,” Silas ordered.
I dropped my hand into my lap. “Thank you.”
With gentle hands, he carefully pressed against the tender flesh and prodded at the deep gash the dagger had caused. “It looks like it's already inflamed, and there might be a possible infection setting in.” He glanced at Bastian. “Do you have—”
“Already on it.” Bastian held out two different potions.
Silas grabbed the vials before focusing back on the wound on my side. “I’ll clean it first.” He held up his hand and summoned water to cleanse the wound, and I hissed as the coldness made contact with the cut.
Jasper kneeled down directly in front of me and grabbed my hand while Casper did the same to my other hand.
“This is silly,” I muttered, shaking my head as even my spirit throbbed in pain. “I’ve been hurt way worse than this, and every time I heal with a healing potion.”
“That doesn’t matter. It’s not healing now, and we need to fix it as best we can.” Silas poked the sensitive flesh before his brows furrowed. “There's a small fragment of bone that broke off and lodged itself into the gash.”
He carefully irrigated it out of my body and grabbed it before holding it out for me to see. “Yeah, that's definitely a bone.” Silas handed the bone over to Bastian, who grabbed it.
“I’ll be back. Let’s find out just what kind of bone this is.” He left the bathroom with Aimon in tow.
Silas carefully applied a layer of thick cream from one of the potions Bastian had handed him. “This should help some with the pain.”
It did soothe the pain, ebbing away at it slightly, but it still hurt.
He wrapped clean cloth bandages around my side until it was snug. “That should prevent any more infection.”
My wound was still tender, but that was to be expected since it wouldn’t heal. The dressing holding the wound made it feel better already. “Thank you. You’re really good at that.”
“Before we had Bastian, healing potions were harder to come by, so I learned how to heal with medicine the best I could,” he explained, flicking his gaze to mine. “You need to rest and let your body heal.”
The twins helped me to my feet as Silas got to his, and we made our way back into the bedroom.
Silas left the room as I sat on the bed with a wince, pain radiating up and down my side. The twins took the spots next to me.
“I’m sorry we couldn’t get to you,” Jas muttered bitterly. “We keep letting you down when you need us the most.”
I shook my head. “You can’t help magic being at work. We may be powerful because of the ties to Hexarium, but we arenotunstoppable or able to do everything.”
“We’re still sorry,” Cas murmured, grabbing one of his large t-shirt’s and carefully pulling it over my head.
“I don’t blame you, so there’s no need.”
