“Just see what it is, then come back to me.”

He sighed and wrapped his hand around my throat, tugging me toward him before pressing his lips to mine. His tongue swept over the seam of my lips, and I opened my mouth for him. He moaned before pulling away, leaving me trembling for more. “I’ll always come back to you, little bird.”

He unwrapped his hand and trailed his index finger down the column of my neck before turning and trekking toward Simmons, who had purposefully avoided eye contact.

My face heated as I realized people had been watching us.

Lachlan threw an arm around my shoulder and led me toward the opening in the training yard. “Don’t worry about it. It was hot.”

“I know a few things I can do to our mate that happen to be hotter.” Thorn stood with his arms crossed and a smile on his face. “Morning, Kit.”

“Good morning.” I slid an arm around his waist as the three of us started walking toward the dorms.

Excitement and arousal thrummed through me. I couldn’t wait to spend time with them. I wished there was more time for it, but that was life when preparing for war against humans.

“Oh,Kalista!Ifyou’renot the cutest little guy I’ve ever seen!” I cooed to the black squirrel that had jumped from Kian to my lap as he stepped inside our dorm.

I barely spent time in the dorms anymore since Rowan liked having me close and within the confines of the high-strength ward while we slept. Plus, all of my mates were welcome there too. But being in my dorm room between Thorn’s legs as Lachlan sat on the end with my legs in his lap had to be the most relaxing thing in the world.

The squirrel let out a chirping noise as he nuzzled my chest, and Kian’s neck and face turned cherry red.

“Nightshade! Stop that!”

The squirrel paused for a moment and glanced over its shoulder at Kian before smooshing his face against my chest and hugging me.

“You—you scandalous creature!” Kian sputtered, scrambling over and grabbing it off me. “I’m so sorry. He’s a bit of a jerk sometimes.”

The squirrel struggled in his hold, trying to wiggle out and run back to me, and I giggled.

“Nightshade? Is that his name?”

Kian’s cheeks had lessened from red to pink, and he nodded. “He’s my familiar.”

I beamed. “That’s amazing, Kian! He suits you.”

His lips tugged into a concerned frown. “Are you sure about that?”

Nightshade whirled around in his hold and let out an exasperated sound.

“Oh, that’s not what I mean, and you know it. She’s off-limits to your paws.”

Nightshade threw its head back dramatically.

Thorn’s fingers glided across my scalp, and he added more ice magic through it that made a small moan of contentment leave my lips.

Lachlan’s hands froze on my shins, and he stared at me.

“Nightshade! D—Don’t say that!” Kian stuttered, and he let go of the squirrel to push his glasses on top of his head and fan himself.

Thorn chuckled, and his cool breath hit my ear. “If one of your small moans made them flustered, imagine what they’d do if I made you scream my name.”

I clenched my thighs together and tried to ignore the heat blasting through me.

“You smell good.” Lachlan’s fingers dug into my leg as he raked a hungry gaze down my body.

“Um.” I cleared my throat from the thickness of arousal. “Lachlan mentioned you were going to your villages this weekend.”

“Yes, that’s true,” Kian murmured, not yet meeting my gaze.
