I reeled back, and Nightshade perched up on my shoulder like he was gonna fight him.‘There’s that power.’
I hushed him.
“What did the dragon look like?” Rowan gritted out.
“The man had gray hair with red streaks, and he looks older than any dragon I’ve ever seen before.”
“What was said?” His knuckles were white as he held the sphere, and I was surprised it hadn’t shattered.
“He told my father that they would be working together, and my father assured them that they would have me on their side. That they would make use of my visions.” I spat out the bitterness of the truth. It shouldn’t surprise me that my father would have sold me out like that, but I knew it was true. My father hadn’t been the same since my mom died. That weighed heavily on my heart.
“No, they will not get their hands on you,” Rowan growled. “I will make sure of that.”
My heart fluttered to know that my mate’s mate cared enough to protect me. I took a breath and squeezed my fists together in my lap. Nightshade scurried down and put his little palms on my fisted hands. “I think… I need to go to the village just to make sure. Just to see if the vision hadn’t happened yet. Maybe it didn’t happen. I’m not sure. My visions can be past, present, or future. I know it wasn’t present, because he was on the phone with me,” I explained. “If I could somehow go and convince him to join the Supernatural Council instead of the dragons of Blezen, then I think I need to do that. I have to at least try.” My voice cracked as emotion flurried over my brain. “My father isn’t a good man, but I would hope he and the leader wouldn’t put the fate of all supernaturals above their own village.”
Deep down, I knew that my father and the leader of the coven had probably already made their choice. But if I didn’t at least try to change it, I didn’t know if I could live with myself.
“If that’s your decision, then very well. I know you hold immense power, and I know you can handle yourself.”
I nodded. “I know I can too.”
‘Damn right you do,’Nightshade commented.
“You will leave this weekend. You have two days to prepare. Make sure you speak with Lachlan, so he knows to accompany you. He can stop by the werewolf village since it’s right next to yours, and we can see where they stand on the matter. Kill two birds with one stone.” Rowan took a deep breath and let billows of smoke out from his nostrils.
“Okay.” My mind ran a mile a minute.
Nightshade scurried up and patted my cheek.‘It’ll be okay, champ.’
I chuckled. “Thanks.”
“I’m not sure exactly what your familiar told you, because he seems to have an attitude,” Rowan said, as Nightshade scoffed. “But you will be just fine. You and Lachlan are both extremely strong beings. If this is part of your journey, then you have to do it.”
He and Nightshade were right. I could handle this. I just had to make the first step.
TWENTY-EIGHT
Wren
Thebriskwinterchillglided through my hair as I stretched out my hamstrings after the high-intensity workout Simmons made us do. He was stern this morning, and he really stuck to his schedule. He shot down any and all distractions and pushed through with the lesson with no breaks.
We were in the middle of doing our cool down stretches, so Lachlan, Damien, and I took time to talk a bit.
Damien’s lips brushed over my temple as he came up behind me and helped me with my stretch. As sweet as it was, I had a feeling he only helped because I was bent over.
I never would have had these thoughts last term, but maybe my mates had corrupted me. I shoved those thoughts away as my cheeks heated.
“Did you hear about this weekend yet?” Lachlan asked.
“What about this weekend?” I glanced up, and Damien’s hands snaked around my waist.
“Kian had a vision, and he needs to go to his village. Rowan gave him the go head to do so, but he was told to take me along. We’re also going to stop by the werewolf village to see if we can get them on our side as well.”
My brows furrowed, and I stood up out of my stretch. “What do you mean? You guys are leaving this weekend to go to Cursina?”
He reached back and rubbed the nape of his neck. “Yeah, I know. It’ll be tough. We’re gonna miss you.”
Damien snorted. “Have you even kissed her yet?”
