Flames of heat danced over my skin as he drew circles on my back. “I’ve missed you, fledgling.”

“Well, isn’t this cute?” Tabitha commented in a teasing tone that reminded me of Trixie.

“Never thought I’d see Rowan with a mate.” Norman’s voice vibrated through the room. “Mates are such an interesting concept.”

“It’s interesting to see a positive vision play out in front of me,” Blair said.

I pulled back, but Rowan grabbed my hips and set me on his lap, inhaling against my neck. “You smell of Rhett. I didn’t feel the bond snap.”

“It, um, didn’t form yet.” My abdomen pooled with heat as I thought about that morning and what Rhett and I had done.

Rhett shook his head, but there was a heated twinkle in his gaze.

Rowan let out a low, almost hum of a growl. “I see.”

My face warmed as the other three that Rowan was in the meeting with looked at me with a knowing glint in their eyes.

There was a ruffle of wind before Thorn appeared in the office. His hand reached forward to pluck me out of Rowan’s hold and into his. Ice coated my body as he held me tight. “I’ve missed you so much, Kit.”

My soul was brimming with being so close to all of my mates, but there was a noticeable hole in it where I was missing the rest of them. “I missed you too.”

“May we finish this meeting before you all lose control?” Blair let out a tittering laugh. “We were just waiting to find out what happened at the Demon Capital.”

Thorn rolled his eyes and pulled away long enough to wrap his arms around my waist, pulling me into his chest as he stood there.

I sighed in content with having his hands on me. “The Demon Capital is on our side.”

Rhett stepped forward. “They’ve been having a good amount of humans infiltrate the capital, both in groups and some specimens as well.”

“Regular humans have started attacking?” Rowan asked, rubbing his forehead. “The council never mentioned that, so I suppose it’s new.”

Damien’s mirth bounced around the room, causing heat to build between my legs. “They call themselves soldiers. I wonder how well these soldiers are able to handle torture?” His head tilted as if he were deep in thought, and a little giggle burst out of my lips.

“The shadow demon is corrupting you.” Thorn’s breath fanned over my ear as he inhaled. “And it seems like the incubus has too.”

I bit down on my lip. It was weird knowing that all of my other mates could smell Rhett on me after we had made love for the first time, but I wasn’t embarrassed. If anything, it was empowering and made me feel loved.

“They brought one of the humans out and Death ate their soul. It was really fucking cool,” Damien said.

I squeaked. “The demon who did that… his name isactuallyDeath?”

“He’s nicknamed death. His real name’s Daryl, but—” Rhett started, but I interrupted him with a small giggle.

“I’m sorry. His real name is Daryl, but everyone calls him Death. It’s just kind of funny.” I slapped a hand over my mouth to withhold more giggles.

Tabitha joined in with my laughs. “She has a point. It’s kind of funny.” She brushed her brown hair out of her face. Her facial structure was a lot like Trixie’s but older, which made sense with them being sisters.

“So what is Death?” I asked.

“He’s a soul eater. He’s one of five left that we have knowledge of,” Damien answered.

That was what I had thought, but it was still hard to hear that a species was dwindling in numbers, especially being the last of my kind.

“Well, it’s good that they chose to team up with the Supernatural Council rather than the dragons.”

Norman climbed to his feet with a yawn. “I guess I need to get back to the lab.”

“By lab, don’t you mean the basement of Dragon’s Reach Library?” Tabitha blinked up at Norman with a calculated look.
