I ran my hand through my hair. “I’ve never had bangs. In fact, I’ve never had a haircut.”

Trixie and the stylist gasped.

“There were no stylists in the village, and I never really thought about changing my hair before,” I murmured. “But, yeah, I think I would like to try bangs.”

“Okay, sweetheart.” The stylist popped her gum and smiled. “Step over here with me.”

I followed her to the back and sat in a leather chair.

“Since you’ve never had a cut or anything, do you know how witches style?” She stood in front of me.

“Magic, right?”

She nodded. “We can use our magic to style, color, cut, lengthen, and change the consistency.”

“That’s really cool. I didn’t realize that you could do all of that.” It was cool to see witches could make their living in the beauty aspect of work while using their powers.

“Are you ready?” She brushed her palms together with a comforting smile.

She waved her hand in front of my face and said an incantation before there was a jolt of magic through the front of my scalp. “Wow,” she murmured. “Bangs look so good on you.” She turned me around in the chair to face a mirror, and my eyes widened.

My white hair was still the same, but I had straight bangs across my forehead with volume in them. My eyes looked so much bigger than they were with this style. My lips curved into a shy smile. “I really love it.” Reaching up, I played with the silky strands.

She grinned, waving her arm out to signal me to follow her. “I’m so glad you do.”

We went back to the waiting area, and Trixie gasped, hopping out of her chair. “Babe, you look so hot!”

Callie smiled, setting the magazine she’d been flipping through on the table as she got to her feet. “You look so pretty with bangs.”

Damien stepped out of the shadows, and the stylist jumped back. “Oh!” She put her hand to her heart. “Was he with you the whole time?”

I giggled as Damien scooped me into his embrace. “You look fucking divine, little bird.” He kissed my forehead, which was now obscured by my hair.

“He’s always with her,” Trixie told her, and she scurried off to the back after Trixie paid her.

“Listen,” Damien started. “We were hesitant to tell you ladies this, but the dragons of Blezen know about Wren, and they are looking for her.”

My friends tensed, and I clutched onto Damien’s shirt. As I moved closer to him, his shadow tendrils wrapped around me, pushing me into his body even further. “Did you really have to just blurt it out like that?”

“Yes.” He nodded, glancing at Callie and Trixie. “We won’t let them touch her, but I thought you should be aware in case they start figuring out who her friends are.”

Callie and Trixie nodded, and the peaceful atmosphere of the salon grew tense.

“On the bright side…” I peeked over to look at them. Trixie had a scowl on her face, and she shook with anger.

“Please do give me a bright side, because right now, I want to go kick some dragon ass.”

Callie frowned as tears welled in her eyes. “Please tell us some good news.”

“I got my power.”

Their eyes widened, and Trixie squealed. “No way! What is it?”

Damien’s shadows twisted around my neck. “You can tell them later. We can’t risk you using your power in public for someone to find out.”

“That sounds like a damn cool power, whatever it is.” Trixie winked.

“We understand. Also, on another low note,” Callie started, running her hand through her hair. “Samson told me this morning that the Supernatural Council has lost the sirens to the dragons. And being a siren myself, that scares me really bad.” She shifted on her feet.
