“So, was Professor Fallon really the one working with the humans and letting them through the wards?” Callie asked with troubled eyes.
“Yes, she was. I’m more than happy that she’s gone because, in all honesty, that woman brought out a side of me I didn’t like.”
“That’s because she had it out for you. Because she wanted what was yours.” Trixie glowered at the table in between us. “The bitch got what she deserved.”
Callie squirmed in her seat. “Has Tabitha said that it’s calmed down since Fallon has been killed?”
Trixie shrugged. “Slightly, but apparently it’s still happening.”
I scrunched my nose up. “Alister had told us last minute about one of the students working with Fallon.”
Callie and Trixie gasped. “Who?”
“Her name was Eve. She was in one of my classes. I think she was a reptilian shifter. I remember she seemed to like Alister, and I didn’t like that at all.”
“Of course you didn’t. Alister’s your mate,” Callie said.
Trixie nodded in agreement.
“She was in Crystology Practical with me, but apparently, no one’s been able to find her since everything went down with Fallon.” Goosebumps rose on my arms. “It just makes me really nervous.”
“I can see why.” Trixie frowned, reached over and patted my hand. “But it’s going to be okay. All of your mates are extremely powerful, and they can take care of themselves and you, but when they can’t take care of you, I’ve got your back.”
Warmth spread over my chest, and I smiled. “I know you do, and I love that about you.”
“I love you too, babe.” She grinned, and Callie giggled. “And we love you too.” Trixie smiled at her.
Callie dipped her head. “I love you guys too. I honestly didn’t expect to make such great friends at this academy, especially after my friend was…” She trailed off but shook her head. “Anyway, I’m just really happy that I’ve met you.”
“Me too,” Trixie and I said at the same time.
“Oh, and Tabitha found like five more of those charms,” Trixie told me with a frown.
My heart dropped. “Really?”
Apparently, Fallon had been placing charms on my classmates in order to make my life more difficult, and that hurt. I wished she hadn’t taken such extreme measures to hurt me. Kian had said that the magic that enchanted the charms came from a necromancer, so we knew there was a necromancer out there working with the humans.
It was terrifying, and the students who had the charms removed didn‘t feel so angry or obsessive over me afterwards, which made me feel like those students who Damien and Thorn had ‘taken care of’ maybe didn’t deserve it. Especially if their actions had been manipulated.
One of the stylists came over and pulled Callie first, and we dropped that conversation. “What do you want, sweetheart?”
Callie shrugged. “I don’t know. Any suggestions?”
The stylist smiled. “I know just the thing,” she told Callie as they walked to the back.
Trixie turned to me with a frown. “Nate’s been trying to talk to me. I forgot to tell you.”
“Well, did you talk to him?” I leaned over and the chair squeaked.
“I heard him out. He apologized for what he called ‘an argument.’ But I mean, you heard what happened. That was not an argument. It was verbal abuse. I forgave him but told him I didn’t want to pursue a relationship anymore because I had my eyes on someone else.”
“I bet he didn’t take that well.”
“Not at all. He actually got in my face and called me a slut.” She hesitated, shifting back in her seat.
“What else did he say?”
“It doesn’t matter.”
