I pressed a kiss to Damien’s temple before walking over to Rowan and pushing his hair back out of his face as I sat on his lap. “No, but I think I could. It felt similar to shifting but not as simple. Shifting is second nature. My body gently nudges the magic through me to shift. But when I saw Alister like that, my magic forced itself through.”

“Did it freak you out as much as us?” Lachlan asked.

“No. I didn’t even know why you were all freaking out about it. It was frustrating that you couldn’t hear me, but when I ran at Fallon, I went straight through her.”

“You ran at her?” Rowan growled, wrapping his arms around my waist.

“I was mad.”

“Fledgling, you’re too reckless with your life.” Smoke rolled over my shoulder, and my body warmed with the fire sizzling beneath his core.

“I’m not sorry. I would’ve done it for any of you, and each of you would’ve done it for me.”

“She’s right.” Damien played with a shadow tendril between his fingers.

“And now she has a power that compliments her strengths.” Rhett’s lips curled into a smile, making my heart flutter.

Stealth was a natural talent to a fox, but becoming incorporeal made my stealth ability a thousand times better. I needed to test it out soon and discover my limits.

“There’s only ever been one case of a supernatural with that ability documented in our records, and it was over two thousand years ago,” Kian said.

‘Damn, our mate’s special,’Shade squeaked.

“She’s not your mate,” Kian grumbled as the others nodded in agreement, making me huff a laugh.

“I’ll let Simmons know about your power emergence and let him know to work with you privately. Like Alister’s gift, I’d prefer if outsiders didn’t know.” Rowan kissed my head.

“That makes sense.”

Shade pounced from Kian’s shoulder into Alister’s lap, where he sat on the chair in front of Rowan’s desk.

Alister jerked, looking down at Shade. “And what are you doing?”

‘You’re sitting down, and your lap is comfortable. Now, pet me.’

Alister flashed his fangs before running his fingers down Shade’s back. “Needy familiar.”

“That he is,” Kian mumbled, and Shade chirped.

Lachlan let out a low chuckle as Kian’s cheeks tinged pink.

“With all the chaos, we never got to discuss what happened at the villages.” Rowan squeezed my hips, and I stifled a moan. “I’ve been patient with letting Alister gain strength, but it’s been two days. The terror you felt through the bond was terrible. It’s time for us to know what happened at the Necromancer Village.”

Kian winced, and I stiffened on Rowan’s lap. “I guess I can start off by saying that I shouldn’t have ever brought Wren there. I knew the nature of necromancers, and I really am the only exception.” His voice cracked as he moved his glasses on top of his head and started rubbing his eyes. Frustration leaked through his bond.

“What do you mean?” Rowan asked.

I turned in his lap and looked into those flaming eyes. “Can you promise not to shift on us?”

His lips twisted into a scowl. “Tell me what happened, fledgling.”

“I think it’s best if Kian explains,” I murmured, squirming in his lap as his arms became like iron bars around me.

“If it was this bad, why didn’t you tell us sooner?” Thorn asked, and I frowned.

“There was so much going on.”

“The leader of my coven, or the Necromancer Village... I cut ties with them before we teleported out of there, but they made the alliance with the dragons a month ago. The dragons gave them a few dragon scales, apparently. Their power level in the village has surpassed anything that it used to be, but I think that their darkness has grown as well.” Kian hesitated, lowering his hands from his face. “But that’s not the worst thing. The leader of the dragons, Roak, was the name Claude said, has told them—”
