Fallon had to die. She hadn’t even noticed us yet as she fed off my mate. Alister was unconscious, with tubes sticking out of his veins.

My magic welled inside me as I bared my teeth and let out a ferocious growl. My magic exploded, much like when I transformed into a fox, but that wasn’t what happened. Rage fell over my being, and contempt and magic spilled out of me. The ruby ring I wore around my neck and the one on my finger cracked out of their mold before smacking together and fusing, dropping at my feet.

Lightness filled me, but I couldn’t focus on anything but my hatred for the woman hurting my mate.

“Wren?”Damien screamed, sprouting his tail and horns as his shadows whipped around him.

“Where did she go?” Rowan breathed fire, and scales spread over his skin.

Lachlan’s eyes glazed with fear as Rhett’s horns and tail came out with a terrible roar.

Fallon ripped her fangs out of Alister’s neck, tearing his flesh. With wide eyes, she looked back at us.

“Wait. I can feel her.” Kian shouted. “There’s no fear. Just anger.”

“But where the fuck is she?” Damien spat.

“I’m right here.” I growled, not wanting to take my eyes off Fallon for fear of her hurting Alister.

Shade turned his head at me.‘She’s right there.’

Thorn, Rowan, and Damien paused and looked at Shade.

“Did your squirrel just talk to us?” Thorn asked.

“Where is she?” Rowan asked, and Shade pointed at me.

I didn’t care why they weren’t able to see me. I wasn’t sure I even processed it. The only thing I could focus on was Alister. He was passed out in a metal chair with his head to the side and blood running down his neck. He’d been at the mercy of Fallon. A vile vampire who kept coming atmymates.

A storm of sinister intent rolled through my veins, and I ran at her as she looked at the guys, not sparing me a glance. But I ran rightthroughher.

I gasped, spinning around and facing her back. How had I done that? I swallowed hard, and my shadow struck out, ghosting through Fallon’s chest.

I screamed as the lightness in my bones dissipated and my shadow became corporal through Fallon’s chest. “Stay away from my mates,” I choked out, jerking my shadow roughly out of her body.

“What the fuck!” Lachlan sputtered as Damien let out a gleeful mirth.

“My little bird is fucking amazing!”

Fallon twisted around, and irritation flared in her eyes before blood spilled from her lips. She dropped to the ground, her blood seeping into the soil. It wasn’t a fatal blow for a vampire, but I was sure Rowan would want her questioned. I knew after what she’d done, Damien wouldn’t let her live afterwards—and that gave me peace.

Adrenaline had me stumbling over Fallon’s body, over to Alister. My trembling fingers pulled the needles connecting the tubes from Alister to the machine out of his arms.

“You did good, baby.” Rhett kneeled behind him, untying his arms from the back. His violet eyes met mine, but my body ran on the adrenaline so I couldn’t focus on him.

I snatched the gauze that was stacked on a metal stand and put it to his neck. “Alister, wake up.” Tears streamed down my face, dripping onto his wrinkled, bloodied shirt. “Please wake up.”

Damien’s arms wrapped around my waist as he sniffed my hair from behind. “There, there, little bird. You’ve done well.”

“Why isn’t he waking up?” I sobbed, my chest caving in as I stood over Alister, pressing the gauze to his neck. It wasn’t healing like it should’ve been.

“There’s so much blood.” Norman clicked his tongue, tapping his shoe on the large tank hooked up to the machine.

Bile crept up my throat. I hadn’t even noticed Norman had come with us, but the tank hooked to the machine had at least a couple of gallons of Alister’s blood. Not to mention the blood that woman drank from him.

Tabitha’s hands flew to her mouth. “I know vampires regenerate blood faster than any other supernatural, but that’s way too much blood to be taken, even from him.”

Blair cracked a smile at me. “He will be okay. He just needs rest.”
