He wasn’t in front of me anymore. He was at his desk with his hand around her arm, pulling her off the desk. “How many times do I have to tell you that I’m not interested? Get out.”

Her cold gaze cut to me, and her eyes darkened before flicking back to him. “Because of the young shifter? You know vampires keep it in their own species.”

“I don’t care.” He pointed toward the door. “Get the fuck out.”

She pouted her lips as she stared up at him. “I’m ready and willing to be or do anything you want, Alister. Why do you insist on pursuing a mangy shifter who’s already been rejected?”

I flinched.

Was Grayson’s rejection common knowledge now? Why did that have to be something everyone who didn’t like me brought up?

“You can either walk out, or I’ll put you out.” He pushed her forward as he let go of her arm. “Your choice, Vicki.”

“Maybe Rhett will be more agreeable.” She huffed, glancing back one last time before using her vampire speed to leave the room.

The air brushed over me from her speed as she passed me, and I brought my gaze to Alister’s.

Anger swirled in my stomach, and I clenched my teeth together.

“Rhett doesn’t entertain her antics either.”

I crossed my arms. “Does that happen a lot?”

“Far too often,” he grumbled.

Stepping into the room, I glanced at the empty rows. “Have you guys ever, um—”

“Slept together,” he finished my question. “No. We haven’t. She’s been trying since she was hired this year.”

“Isn’t that sexual harassment?”

“Rowan gave her notice. It’ll be her last year of teaching.”

Relief dripped into my belly. “That’s good, but I still think a year is giving her too long.”

He chuckled with a nod as he pointed toward the door. “Do you mind shutting that?”

“Sure.” I backed up and closed the door behind me.

“Speaking of, Rhett told me to pass along a message.”

“He did?” I turned around and strolled over toward his desk, where he leaned against it, trying to burn the memory of Professor Fallon on it from my mind.

“You’re no longer taking Herbology Theory with Vicki.” His lips curved into a smile. “You’re taking Hendrix’s Herbology Practical. It’s at eight AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.”

The dread that had filled me with Professor Fallon’s presence was replaced with excitement, and my eyes widened. “Are you serious?”

He nodded, and I squealed, covering my mouth with both hands. This was going to be so much better. Half the information she was teaching in Herbology was incorrect, so I hadn’t learned about a single new herb.

“I take it you’re excited?” He tapped the red tear on his cheek absentmindedly. “I would be too if I could get away from that nightmare.”

A laugh burst from my lips. “Sheiskind of a nightmare. It’s just frustrating because she’s teaching the wrong material. Whoever Hendrix is, he’s going to have issues with Herbology Practical students next term.”

“I’d say so.” He crossed his arms, watching me as I stood in front of him in his empty classroom.

Being alone with him felt almost taboo. We were both adults, but he was still one of my professors. I knew that didn’t matter in this academy, but it was almost exciting.

My gaze was drawn to his mark again, and I nibbled on my bottom lip.
