“I feel that I can trust you.” She reached up and loosened her tie. “I can’t explain it.”

“You’re going to get yourself into heaps of trouble with that logic,” I muttered as I tried to ignore the throbbing in my groin. “Not everyone is trustworthy.”

She walked forward until she was just as close as before when she was under my pheromones. “So you’re saying that you’d hurt me?”

“Never,” I growled, my horns inched their way out of my skull at the mention of it.

She smiled softly before taking a step back. “Then I don’t have anything to worry about.”

This fucking woman...

I closed the distance between us, grabbing her lower back and pressing her into me as I dropped my face to hers. “Still trust me?”

She let out a small gasp before biting down on her bottom lip and nodding her head.

“And if I kiss you?”

Her eyes widened, and I smirked before pulling away and letting her go. “That’s my point, Wren. You shouldn’t trust so easily.”

She smoothed out her uniform as she cleared her throat. A shy smile played on her lips. “You should just accept the fact that I trust you.”

“Kalista…” I shook my head before ambling toward the door and yanking it open. “Don’t you know how easy it would be to let off my pheromones and have my way with you?”

It took her a few seconds before she strolled out the door, meeting my gaze as she walked through. “But you didn’t.”

“That’s not the point.” I shut and locked the door behind us, and we left Arcane Hall and headed through the Cherry Blossom Garden.

The pink leaves were falling perpetually, caught within the cool night air as we walked across the bridge that was caged in between the trees.

It was one of the most relaxing places on campus with the pink petals surrounding it.

Wren stretched out her hand and caught one with curious eyes.

“The academy witch worked alongside an earth fae and enchanted the trees to never stop blossoming and falling,” I explained, and her eyes lit up as she smiled.

“That’s amazing.”

A familiar figure stepped onto the opposite side of the bridge before coming to a halt.

Gerry stood there with a frown on his face, blocking the way with his colossal body. He wasn’t as scary as he looked, but he was intimidating nonetheless.

I glanced over at Wren to see her unbothered as she started rumbling through her bag.

“Good evening, Gerry,” I greeted him as we stepped in front of him.

“Evening,” he mumbled. His face reddened as he noticed Wren next to me.

She pulled out the jar of healing cream with a satisfied, “Ah-ha!” She held the jar out to him. “Hi! I’m Wren, and I noticed the bruising and wounds on your face and arms. They look decently fresh, and I’m sorry if this is too presumptuous, but I actually have a healing cream that I believe would heal that right up.”

My mouth fell open as I watched her grab Gerry’s other hand and place the jar in it. Even I was a bit put off by the guy at first, but the tiny shifter didn’t even blink before trying to help him.

“Uh.” He blinked at her before taking the jar and looking down at it. “Thank you?”

“You’re welcome.” She beamed, clasping her hands together.

“It’s really good,” I told him. “Better than any healing cream I’ve ever used. I’d give it a shot.”

He gave me a hesitant nod before pocketing the small jar. “You two have a good night.”
