Lachlan huffed. “I just wanted to howl, okay? She’s probably the sweetest fucking woman ever, and I want to just—”
“Mind your thoughts.” Thorn shot an ice crystal at Lachlan that smacked harmlessly into his forehead. “I know exactly what you want to do with her. I can’t say I haven’t had the same thoughts.”
“Um—” I started to speak, but Thorn cut me off.
“Yes. I know everything you’ve thought. Including the fact that you’re still a virgin.”
Kill me now.
Thorn cracked a smile. “It’s not a big deal. So is Wren.”
“How, um, do you know that?”
“Have you talked to her?” Lachlan chuckled. “That woman is as innocent as ever.”
“She’s pure, and I’ve been reading her thoughts for a while now,” Thorn said, getting a far off look on his face as his cheeks reddened. “She’s definitely a virgin.”
“Do you, um, think that she’s met some of her mates?” I scratched the back of my head as I leaned back in the chair and put my feet on the desk, and my heartbeat sped up.
“I believe so.” Thorn sighed, and Lachlan put his chips into his bag before lying the opposite direction on my bed as Thorn was. “Although, I really hate that the Fates tried to mate her to Grayson.”
Cold magic blasted off Thorn, and it filled the room as he gritted his teeth. “He didn’t just reject her. He got her banished from her pack. After Fate Hollow, she has no home to return to.”
A lump formed in my throat as pain lanced my heart.
“Where’s she planning on going?” Lachlan jumped up in a sitting position as he stared at Thorn.
Thorn shrugged, his lips pulling down in a frown. “I’ve tried getting her to come to the fae realm with me, but…”
“She doesn’t want to?”
“Something’s keeping her from saying yes. I think it’s the pull to her mates. I don’t think she has a mate that’s fae.”
“What about you?”
Thorn shot up with wide eyes. “What about me?”
“Don’t you think you’re one of her mates?” Lachlan tilted his head, a serious expression taking over his face.
That was something I’d been thinking too. Thorn and Wren were comfortable around each other, and I would have bet they were mates. There was something there.
“I don’t know,” Thorn finally said, raking his fingers through his long blue strands. “I want to be, but the Fates gave her Grayson, not me.”
“And what a shit idea that was.” Lachlan grunted. “You’re better for her. Hell, you’re probably better for her than I am, but…”
“You want to be mated to her, too?” Thorn’s eyebrow arched in a knowing way as Lachlan nodded.
Swallowing the lump in my throat, I murmured, “I do too.”
Wren was a beautiful soul. Her smile lit up the room, and her presence made me want to be better than I was. I wanted to be someone she could count on, someone she wanted to confide in.
But with men like Thorn and Lachlan, how could I compare?
“She can mate multiple men, Kian.” Thorn swung his legs to the side of the bed and reached out to pat my back. “You never know. You could be one of them.”
I smiled as my pulse quickened. That would be the best thing to happen in my entire existence.
“Sometimes the Fates can surprise us,” Thorn said.
