A mischievous smile came across his lips before he held his index finger up and the surrounding shadows dispersed, with him gone as well.
I went over and opened the door.
“Morning.” Kian’s groggy voice slid over me, and his brown locks were in disarray.
I turned my head toward where Damien had just been before pursing my lips. He faded in and out by shadow a lot, but I supposed hewasa shadow demon.
Kian fumbled for his glasses on top of his head before shoving them onto his face. “You were asleep for fifteen hours. That’s nine hours more than an average supernatural sleeps.”
“Is that right?” Heat spread across my cheeks.
Trixie and I had eaten a full lunch yesterday. It was nice to eat a full meal with a friend. I had never done it before, and I found it exhausted me. I’d come back to the dorms and fallen prey to the softness of the mattress.
“Oh!” He waved his hands around frantically. “I don’t mean that in a bad way. I just mean that it seemed like you needed sleep. I hope catching up on sleep will help you feel better... that is, assuming you don’t sleep well usually. I just wanted to make sure you were okay in here.”
I couldn’t help but let my gaze trail downward as he rambled on about not meaning to offend me.
He only wore white boxers with a thick black waistband, and his body was toned more than I had been expecting. The way his muscles carved into his flesh was mesmerizing, and the purple script ‘visionary’ rested in the middle of his chest. The abdominal muscles caught my attention first, but my gaze snagged on his morning erection.
Desire exploded through my veins, and I reached up to wrap my hand around my throat to remember to breathe.
I may not have been the most experienced with men, but I had read countless romance books that detailed everything running through my mind. Before coming to the academy, I’d only ever read about the intense feelings of desire and longing, but now I was experiencing it firsthand.
I’d lusted for Thorn before, but what I’d felt around him was more comforting and subtle than what I was feeling around Damien and Kian.
My heart thumped wildly against my palm, and Kian glanced down to notice exactly where I was staring.
Red scattered across his face, and he spun around, spouting out a spell that conjured a black blanket that hung over him like a toga and displayed his boxer-covered butt.
My hands covered my face as I pivoted on my heels to turn around as well.
“I’m so sorry!” We both exclaimed our apologies with urgency.
The silence was palpable before a loud cackle broke out.
Before turning completely around, I peeped over my shoulder to ensure Kian was covered.
“You suck at conjuring, oh, Kalista. That was painful to watch!” Trixie stood in the shared area, fully dressed in her uniform with her shoes on.
“Did you sleep in those?” My nose wrinkled at the thought of how uncomfortable that would’ve been.
“No.” She drew out the o-sound as she shook her hair out. “I conjured the uniform the same way as Kian conjured his blanket toga.”
“Don’t rub it in,” Kian sputtered. “I’m a necromancer, not a conjurer!”
“I’m a nature witch,” she said as she checked her nails. “I’m not a conjurer, but I can at least conjure clothes. Watch this!”
She snapped her fingers, and suddenly, I wasn’t wearing my pajamas. I was dressed in my academy uniform that had been laid out on top of my dresser.
The uniform was a navy pleated skirt that reached a little below mid-thigh, a blue sweater with a white collar blouse underneath, and a navy and white striped tie. I wasn’t sure if the knee-high white stockings were part of the uniform, but they were cute so I didn’t say anything.
I was just happy I wouldn’t have to keep showing my mark to be let in places.
Kian continued grumbling something even my highly sensitive hearing couldn’t pick up, and he didn’t even glance our way.
My heart ached for him, and my mouth curved into a frown. He seemed proud of being a necromancer, but it was obvious he was sensitive to comments like Trixie’s. I was only a shifter, and I was jealous of the magic Trixie wielded. I couldn’t imagine how Kian felt about it.
“Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses.” I grabbed my bag off the floor beside the bed and began rummaging for the tablet they gave us yesterday.
