I had to stay alive long enough to see them. Even if it was just long enough to say goodbye.
Resting my arm on my knee, I ran my fingers over the warm metal that had embedded itself in my skin, sucking my life force away. I'd never been this fucking lost. I always had a plan, but right now, I had nothing but an expiration date. And that scared the shit out of me.
"Lilith?" Gabriel squatted down in front of me with concern etched on his face. "Why are you sitting here?"
My ass had gone numb, and the tingling sensation trickled down my legs. His brows furrowed as he reached out to pick me up, but I pushed his arms away. "I met that blood witch today."
"You did?" His glowing eyes bounced around the room before settling on me again. "I see the pool of blood, but she didn’t mention it when she teleported me in. What did she do?"
"She wanted to meet me." I heaved a sigh. "She's the one who helped Zelek reincarnate me."
He stared at me for a moment before taking a seat next to me, his shoulder resting against mine. As much as I didn't want him touching me, I didn't have the energy to push him away. "She mentioned that."
I sniffed, realizing tears were dripping down my face. "And she told me what this bracelet really does."
He turned to face me. "It doesn't just seal your magic?"
"Fuck no." I held back a sob as I turned my head toward him. "It drains my powers, my essence, my entire soul. I guess you won't have to worry about me coming back to life if she succeeds."
"What?" The halo above his head flickered, and he got to his feet. His wings sprouted behind him as white lightning traveled up and down his arms. "I'll kill her."
"Gabriel, you can't." I lifted one shoulder in a shrug. "She has you under a blood oath."
"I'm not going to let her kill you." His lips trembled as he stared down at me. Almost like the thought of my death was his worst fear. It was ironic, really. "Emma talked to that angel, and they passed along the message to the Draven clan and Aziel. I'll go tell her to pass another message along right now."
In a flash of light, he'd vanished, and I shook my head.
I had to try something, but what could I do without my powers? My energy was non-existent, and I was so fucking tired. I couldn't give up though, not when I knew Aziel, Thaddeus, Blaise, and Kai were waiting for me.
