“Not exactly,” Oren said, scratching his head. “But Theo has been poking around in Heaven, and he’s befriended someone Lilith knows somehow.”
“Really?” Kai sounded hopeful, but I tried to swallow the hope. I didn’t want to be disappointed.
“Yeah, apparently Gabriel discovered a dormant angel bloodline that had been living on Earth. From what Theo says, an angel must’ve given up divinity for humanity and decided to live among humans,” Brann explained.
“And here’s the kicker,” Oren said. “Those humans with angel ancestry are Lilith’s family.”
Kai’s mouth hung open, and I sucked in a sharp breath. Fuck, Poppy. I guess you were never human after all.
“Do her mother or brothers have any special powers?” I asked.
He shook his head. “No, but their essence and blood is special. Their blood could’ve been used for so many fucking rituals. No wonder Zelek sought out her mother. I wonder if Lilith has any angel traits though.”
Kai and I shared a look but didn’t say anything. We couldn’t thanks to that bloody oath.
“Wait, what do you mean could’ve been used?” I asked. “Don’t you mean it could be used?”
“Not exactly.” Oren hesitated.
“Her family ended up killing themselves,” Brann finished. “Their souls are in Heaven now. And from what we could find out, they have seen Lilith.”
My heart thumped wildly at the news. It was more information than we’d had since she was taken, and I hoped Lilith was okay. Back when Corbin was killed, she had been devastated. But she’d never had time to grieve his death properly.
I had a feeling Gabriel was behind their reasons for suicide, and I was sure she’d be gutted. We should’ve continued watching her family after coming to Hell...maybe we could’ve prevented this outcome had we done so.
“That’s not all,” he said, shifting on his feet. “Gabriel has been disappearing almost daily to an unknown location where traces of blood magic have been found. It’s fucking wild.”
“Blood magic?” Kai heaved a breath before going to sit down on the bed. “Are you fucking kidding me? Gabriel has been dealing with blood magic?”
“Oh, fuck.” I ran my hands through my hair, my heartbeat pounding against my skull. I’d heard of blood magic, and I knew if it was involved, it was fucking serious. And it was around Lilith.
Please be okay, Poppy. Please.
“Not Gabriel. Theo thinks it’s someone else, but we don’t know who.”
“Queen Astral?”
Brann shook his head. “If she was using blood magic, we’d all be fucked. She’s in too high of a position to use blood magic. It would tip the scales and existence would implode.”
Existence would implode...where have I heard that?
“The prophecy,” Kai muttered. “Fucking hell. We need to see the seers.”
Brann and Oren glanced at each other.
“That’s not possible,” Brann said with his brows pulled down. “You don’t see the seers. They seek you out. If it’s related to the prophecy…”
“They’ll interfere when needed,” Oren said.
“When would that be?” I gritted my teeth. “We need someone to interfere now. Who knows what kind of hell Gabriel is putting her through.”
Kai got back to his feet. “Thaddeus knows a coven of witches. Maybe they know something about blood magic. We need to figure out something, because sitting around in hell is fucking killing us all.”
Brann nodded. “You’re right. Theo is still keeping an eye on things, and he’ll let us know if he finds anything else out about Lilith.”
I nodded.
“Tell him thanks for us,” Kai said.
Oren snorted. “We’re not doing it for you.”
“We’re doing it for Lilith,” Brann said before the twins spun around and left the room.
“Fucking hellhounds.” I rolled my eyes, and Kai shook his head.
“It’s not a big deal. Let’s go tell the guys what we found out.”
Hopefully this would be enough to help us find Lilith, because a week without her has felt like an eternity.
