Gabriel squatted down beside me and scooped me up in his arms. I writhed against him painfully as he dropped me onto the bed and slid in next to me. “Lilith, stop being stubborn. Feed off me.” He moved his hair to the side to expose his neck, and a sweet scent of blood hit my nostrils that made my vampire instincts rejoice.

I recoiled back, fighting my instincts, and it sent vibrations of scalding heat through me. “No way in hell!”

He glowered at me. “Seriously? We used to be so close. Why won’t you let me in again?”

“You fucking tortured and killed me!” I screamed in half pain, half anger, twisting the comforter in my hands to pull it around me as some sort of barrier between Gabriel and I. I hated being in agony in front of him, but I hated being in a bed next to him more. “Fuck! I may have been able to forgive you for killing me if it had been for balance, but it wasn’t. You tortured me, and you fucking loved it.”

He pushed off the bed, letting his hair fall over the artery that pulsed in his neck, and I let out a breath of relief. “I’m sorry. Why can’t you see that I’m trying to help you?”

“I’d rather die than drink from you,” I spat the words at him coated in venom.

He frowned. “You may very well get your wish.”

And with that, the white light blinded me as he teleported out, leaving me starving and pissed off.
