Aziel’s shoulders shook with anger. It was clear to me that he didn’t believe a word that was coming out of his mouth, but I thought it had more to do with his jealousy than anything else.
Titan made good points, and Lilith trusted him. We owed it to her to give him the benefit of the doubt. I was beyond angry, but I was angry at the right person, Gabriel. Aziel was directing his anger at everyone that could possibly be a part of her abduction, even if they didn’t mean to be. He was losing it, but so were all of us.
“I even asked Kalyke, but the fucking fae doesn’t give two shits about what’s going on.” Pain flicked through Titan’s eyes. “Selene’s up Gabriel‘s ass. I don’t know what’s going on there, but I know the mutt can’t be trusted. Kalyke is just fucking stupid, lazy, and doesn’t wanna be involved. I don’t believe he’s being malicious. I don’t have any fucking clue what’s going on, but I will get answers, because I love Lilith too.”
Crunch.
Aziel’s fist connected with Titan’s face. The bones made an audible crack, and Titan took one step back before hellfire warped around him. The purple bruise that spread on his cheek faded as it healed.
“I'm not going to hit you back.” He spat blood on the ground in front of Aziel. “Even though I really fucking want to, because Lilith would be furious.”
“How dare you assume what she would want!” Aziel roared, his own flames encasing him.
I leaned back in the office chair and shouted, “Stop!”
My power shackled them to the spot, and their flames died. Both of them turned to me with their anger clear on their faces.
Thank fuck my powers still have that boost. I need to check when the next new moon is, because I know it’s coming up sometime this week.
“Everyone’s at their limit. We all are. Without Lilith, tensions are high. But we don’t need to turn on each other.“
“But he isn’t in her harem,” Aziel hissed.
“It doesn’t matter. She cares for him, and you know it.”
“Don’t worry, guard demon. She doesn’t love me like she loves you. I know that. But even so, I need to be there to protect her.” Titan’s head lowered slightly, and I could see his bottom lip quiver.
The muscles in Aziel’s body tensed further before relaxing.
Kai and Blaise stepped through the portal, and I could feel Kai’s calming power working overtime. I was sure he needed a break himself. He’d been blasting us all with an overwhelming amount of calmness to help keep us sane.
Blaise had been just as bad as Aziel lately. Once he snapped out of it, he was running on anger-fueled energy just like Aziel was. I couldn’t wait until we got our hands on that bloody angel.
“You don’t like each other?” I glanced between the two pouting demons who were behaving like bloody adolescents. “Fine. You don’t have to. But what you do have to do is work together for Lilith. It’s for her, not your petty rivalry. Don’t you see that?”
Understanding flickered in Aziel’s angry gaze before he took a deep breath and addressed Titan. “I haven’t been easy to get along with, I admit that.”
Titan snorted. “Understatement.”
Aziel narrowed his eyes, and Kai stepped forward to clamp a hand over his shoulder. I could see his calmness seep into Aziel as his shoulders slumped.
“Both of you need to think about Lilith. She’s what is important here. We need to work together,” Kai said.
“I know you’re only trying to help get her back. I know all too well what you’re feeling, so until we find her, I’ll stop picking fights.” Aziel huffed, holding a hand out to Titan.
Titan’s brows raised as he nodded. “That would be helpful.” He shook Aziel’s hand, and Kai let go of Aziel’s shoulder.
“What happened to that?” Blaise asked, gesturing to the broken desk.
“Someone couldn’t control his anger.” Aziel snickered.
Blaise chuckled dryly with that vacant look in his eyes. “I’ll see if Priamos can get a new one. Baylor’s going to sob when he sees that.”
We had to get her back. It was only a matter of time before tensions got to the point where we couldn’t bring them back down. I wonder what Lilith would think of us now.
