I ignored the hurt from Dean’s asshole behavior. “What’s that mean?”

“It means their souls are human souls with only slight traces of angel divinity. Zelek’s demon genes never passed to them,” Gabriel said. “Your soul is magical energy from when you were created in the first place. You ended up with a lot of angel divinity in your soul because of it. Enough so it’s half your soul's makeup.”

I swallowed hard. “Okay, so why am I here?”

“Queen Astral instructed me to keep you away from potential targets who want to use you.” Gabriel wouldn’t meet my gaze.

A growl rumbled through my chest. “Nobody would get the chance.”

“I took you. I have the chance right now, if I wanted to.”

I snapped my mouth shut and turned my head back toward my family and walked over to Emma. He only had the chance because I let my guard down around him again. I should’ve known better.

“What happened to you?” I gnawed my bottom lip. “I’m glad to see you and Hunter ended up together, but why aren’t you in the living realm?”

She shook her head and pulled away from Hunter to hug me. The lack of scent on her was sad. I hated that they had given up their mortal lives in the living realm. Surely, there were other ways to let them continue their human lives other than suicide.

Once we unraveled from each other, Gabriel spoke up before she could answer me. “It’s time for me to show you something else.”

I turned toward him and a sinking feeling took over. “Back to Hell, right?”

“You know better than that, darling.” Without giving me a chance to tell my family goodbye, Gabriel teleported us away from them.
