He turned fully around and snapped his fingers three times in a row before plunging his hand into his chest and ripping his own heart out. His body diminished, and his heart fell to the concrete with a smack before we had a chance to react.
A sharp gasp broke through the lump in my throat. “Viktor can control minds. That’s how I made one of his underlings kill themselves in the past, but how did he know that?”
“Fuck!” Blaise blurred forward and punched the wall, throwing up concrete particles into the air and cracked chunks every which way.
Kai ran his hands through his hair. “We were too late.”
Aziel shook his head, black hair falling down into his face. “He knew we were coming.”
“And he slaughtered them all,” Thaddeus said.
“Fuck!” Titan kicked a cage, causing it to collide with another. The sound of metal crashing into metal rang out as a row of cages skidded across the concrete into the wall, breaking apart.
I shook my head, walking forward and bringing my foot down on the heart until it combusted under my weight. It popped like a fucking balloon, and black blood oozed from underneath my boot. “We need to teleport to the other facility now.”
Titan nodded, holding his hands out for us to take. “Hopefully we aren’t too late.”
We grasped hands, but as soon as the black flames of teleportation started at our feet, a deep bellow resounded in the room.
A menacing aura floated around, sinking into each one of us.
Everything happened so fucking fast. Glowing eyes lit up the room in different hues as various abandoned prowled around us, circling us like sharks. They were all hunched over with black tendrils of mist seeping out of their cloak-like bodies. There were so many that the black mist obscured our supernatural vision.
I understood why Thaddeus was so adamant about splitting up when hunting them before. They were strong as fuck together.
An abandoned with red eyes had already locked gazes with Blaise, and fear gripped my heart. I hated how the red-eyed abandoned fucked with reality. When I fought one in front of the Order, it was fucking scary. It used my family and fears against me. I almost lost.
But Blaise’s mind was sound. If I could do it, I knew he could too.
Now that I had my memories back, I knew the red-eyed abandoned were nothing but weak. Messing with reality was the only way these fuckers could gain the upper hand. And unfortunately, if you have even a sliver of humanity, it was an effective attack.
Two purple-eyed abandoned charged toward Thaddeus in synchronized movements, and he threw his arms up in time for the hit to knock him back with force into the wall. He recovered quickly, back on his feet and throwing another attack. The abandoned were working seamlessly together, and it was fucking creepy. Purple-eyed abandoned weren’t supposed to work together. They were usually loners like the red-eyed ones.
Kai jumped into action, throwing a few punches at four green-eyed abandoned before they could release their bellows, and Aziel ran to help Kai when a yellow-eyed abandoned went to attack from behind. Aziel used hellfire to burn it to a crisp, but it was relentless until Kai managed to obliterate it.
Titan barreled toward a yellow-eyed abandoned, knocking it back into another one.
The entire room was in chaos. Abandoned and our guys fought each other in blurs of movements. The abandoned were being obliterated left and right, despite that, it seemed like the sea of abandoned kept coming at us no matter how many the guys destroyed.
I could turn the living and dead into ash, but they always got sent to the heart of Hell when I did that. I’d never obliterated anything before, but now I had the power to do it.
I balled my hand into a fist before biting into my wrist and bled on the ground before mumbling an incantation.
The ground shook, and our demons appeared clad in Hell's armor. Thaddeus, Blaise, Kai, and I were the only ones able to obliterate, but they'd be able to make that process a hell of a lot easier on us.
Scanning around me, each of the guys were occupied, and it was clear they were getting worn out. A yellow-eyed abandoned burst forth, focusing in on Blaise who was still mentally fighting the only red-eyed abandoned in the room.
A deadly growl rumbled through my chest as I cut it off mid-strike. I parried the fatal attack and shoved my hand toward the center mass. My hand didn't smack the hard, leathery skin like before. Instead, it burrowed through, and an ice-ball stopped my palm. The yellow orb inside it glowed brighter as my fingers wrapped around it.
I squeezed, crushing it in my palm. It combusted under pressure, and small icy fragments embedded into my skin as the yellow light poured out of it. The creature disintegrated, just as when I’d seen the guys do.
A lightness spread in my chest as I jumped up in excitement. I'd protected Blaise from an abandoned. It was something I'd wanted so badly to do in the past when I'd first become a vampire.
As a demon, I'd relied heavily on my powers. I'd never had to focus on obliterating anything. That was the Order of the Void's job. The Kings of Hell and the Queens of Heaven had ordered them to obliterate problem souls before they'd turned into abandoned. I knew the Order had clans of vampires to take down abandoned and clans of other supernatural beings to go after the other types of damned souls before they could die.
My role in Hell didn't require me to obliterate, and I had no need for hand-to-hand combat. Being turned into a vampire and not knowing any of my true origins benefited me in the long run. Because of Blaise's training, I was able to go head-to-head with an abandoned and obliterate it.
"Lilith!" Thaddeus’s shout snapped me out of my thoughts in time for me to throw myself in front of one of the purple-eyed abandoned that he was fighting. It must've run off when Thaddeus had obliterated its partner, and it went right for Blaise.
