He’s safe.

“Kai!” I pushed my feet forward, staggering toward him. “Kai!”

He kept walking, scanning the area without looking back. As he passed a yellow door, Viktor materialized behind him.

Nausea sunk deeper into my stomach. I dipped into my supernatural speed, but I phased right through them. Stumbling forward, I whipped around in time to see Viktor’s claw slash into Kai’s neck from behind so deep his head rolled off.

Thick blood sprayed, and Kai’s head hit the floor with a sickening plop.

He didn’t even see him coming.

A sob tore from my throat, and I turned, sprinting the other way. If Thaddeus and Kai were here, Blaise and Aziel probably were too.

My soul was being ripped apart, but if I could just let the rest know...

Turning a corner, my ankle snapped, and I toppled forward, smacking into the concrete.

Pain scorched through me, and I inhaled the stale, humid air before letting out a scream.

My ankle wasn’t fucking healing. I pushed myself up to my feet and limped forward, using the wall for support.

I had to find them.

The pain was so intense I felt it in my bones. The physical pain almost drowned out the emotional, but not quite.

Blaise and Aziel rounded the corner, walking toward me, heading in the direction I’d just come. They were arguing over something, but I couldn’t hear a word they were saying. It was like they were on mute.

“Blaise! Aziel! Stop,pleasefucking stop.”

They were completely and utterly oblivious to my presence.

“In all the millennia I’ve been alive, I’ve never had this fucking happen.”

Another cry parted my lips as Blaise and Aziel walked right through me, and a chill zipped down my spine.

They stopped, and I turned to see Viktor standing in front of them with a predatory smile drenched in the blood of Thaddeus and Kai.

My heart cracked in two as I watched Viktor let out a growl that shook the entire building. The room vibrated as the tremors exploded their eardrums and mine. Blood leaked out of our ears as Viktor burst forward in a blood-lust frenzy.

His teeth sunk into Blaise’s neck, decapitating him in an instant.

“No!” I screamed as hot tears drenched my face.

Viktor shoved his clawed hand through Aziel’s chest, splattering his blood, mixing it with Blaise’s.

Aziel’s gaze found mine, and I could finally fucking hear again.

Aziel croaked out, “Stay together.”

The floor gave in, and I fell. The pain faded as my body went numb. My mind became blurry as I fell deeper into the blackness.

THIRTEEN

“No!” A scream ripped from my throat before an uncontrollable sob shook my shoulders. I twisted and turned, drenched in a cold sweat. Soft fabric of sheets underneath me clung to my body.

“Lilith!” Kai’s voice penetrated my brain, and my eyes shot open.

His sweet face came into focus, and another sob tore through me. “Kai!” I pushed myself up and into his chest, breathing in his scent. “Thank you, thank you, thank you. Oh, my God.”
