That makes total sense.
“Oh, yes. Quite fickle indeed.” The man tilted his head, long silver hair swishing to the side. He was ethereal with glowing skin and bright white eyes.
He wasn’t a vampire, but he definitely wasn’t human. My hairs stood on end the closer he got. I didn’t fucking trust him one bit.
“It’s a pleasure to meet with you again, Gabriel.” Thaddeus bowed.
Gabriel’s eyes were trained on me as he waved a hand at Thaddeus in acknowledgment. “Have we met before?”
A strange bolt of electricity ran down my spine as if I’d been struck by lightning. As I blinked, bright white enveloped my vision, and I stumbled backward.
“Poppy!” Blaise caught me from behind.
“Fuck!” Pain erupted across my eyes, and I recoiled further into Blaise.
Within the blinding light, I could make out a tall figure with a twisted as fuck smirk standing over me, as literal lightning came from his fingertips and ricocheted through my bones.
A warm finger pressed between my eyebrows, and the pain ceased immediately.
I straightened up and opened my eyes to see Gabriel staring at me with those cold, white eyes. “Are you all right, Miss Whitlock?”
Clearing my throat, I shook my head at the painful episode. “What and who the hell are you?”
A wicked smile slid onto his features. “I’m Gabriel. The angel representative of the Order of the Void.”
Angel.A shudder rocked through me and my skin crawled.
I narrowed my eyes at him. “What was that just now?”
His smile stayed but his jaw tightened. “I’m not sure what you’re meaning. You seemed to have had an episode of some sort, but it had nothing to do with me. I heard you had a run-in with someone from Viktor’s clan last night.”
Talk about deflecting.
“Yes,” I bit out. “I did.”
“Very good. Make sure you all continue hunting Viktor. You are the ideal pawn for luring him out of hiding.”
Rolling my eyes, I huffed. “Yay. I fucking love being bait.”
“Would you like to proceed to the rest of the Order to begin your trial or not?”
“She would.” Thaddeus stepped in front of me with Kai to separate me from the angel. “Shall we?”
“Indeed.” Gabriel turned and began walking into the swimming hole, the liquid engulfing him until he was gone.
I exhaled a strained breath. “What the fuck was that?”
“I’m not sure.” Blaise rubbed my back. “Are you okay?”
“Do you need anything?” Kai asked.
I shook my head. “I think I’m okay now. He seems…familiar somehow?”
“Have you ever seen an angel before?” Thaddeus asked.
“No. Never.” I rubbed my forehead and stared at the water sloshing around where Gabriel entered. “How do we get to the gate?”
Blaise grabbed my left hand as Kai grabbed my right.
