“Something to do with our hearts not pumping all that often.” Kai shrugged as he strolled over and pulled me into a kiss.
I moved my lips against his with a slight moan before Blaise pulled me out of his arms.
“We were busy,” he told the guys.
“I apologize,” Thaddeus said without moving. “Please, continue. I’d love to see how much she’s improved.”
Kai settled beside Thaddeus as they leaned against the wall.
“Very well.” Blaise shook out his arms before curling his fingers toward himself. “This is your official test of the day. See if you can pin me. I’m not holding back.”
I swallowed hard. I had to pin him because I was too fucking close to graduating from his lessons. The sooner I better equipped myself, the better off I’d be.
And the sooner I can reap the benefits of that reward.
Pride rippled through my limbs, and I pushed it directly toward Blaise, who puffed out his chest.
Once I was sure he was filled with pride, I took action, launching toward him.
A strong hand caught my throat, and he threw me backward. I landed with a roll and hopped onto my feet as he charged me again, no break in between attacks.
His movements were sloppy, and he carried most of his weight in his right foot, so I took the small window of opportunity to throw my foot out and trip him. It was an amateur move on his part that he had warned me about, and as his body fell to the floor.
I jumped on top of him, subduing his thrashing by pinning him to the ground. The warmth from his body leached into mine, sending that all too familiar spurt of yearning through my core.

He blinked a few times before shaking away the prideful haze. “Shit. What was that?”
“I blasted you with some pride.” I bent forward and kissed his nose before I hopped off him.
Thaddeus clicked his tongue, staring at Blaise. “You underestimated her.”
“That’s the beauty of pride,” Kai said with a grin. “It makes you feel well invincible when you’re not.”
“Brilliant, love.” Thaddeus gave me a slight nod before heading back upstairs.
I glanced back at Blaise and Kai. “What did that vampire bitch want from him?”
They darted their eyes away from me and shrugged.
“Can I not know?” My brows furrowed together.
“I have to go work on some plans for the hunt tomorrow. We don’t have anything tonight, so make sure you relax.” Kai rubbed the back of his neck before bolting upstairs.
Irritation threshed over me and I threw my hand up. “What was that about?”
He shrugged, not quite meeting my eyes. “We better keep practicing. Your next test is tomorrow. If you pass, you’re done with my lessons, and you’ll get that reward.”
Desire fizzled over my skin, the irritation postponed. “Please tell me it involves an orgasm. I’m reaching my limit with the celibacy shit.”
He chuckled, sliding his hand up and down my arm as he moved close enough for his chest to rub against mine. “Of course it bloody does.”
“Then teach me everything I need to know to beat you.” I grabbed the base of his neck and pulled him down to me, devouring him in kisses that made me forget everything going on in our world.
