“So they’re fast?”
“Elusive and dangerous,” Kai said.
I cleared my throat. “Dangerous how? What makes them different from the green-eyed ones from last night?”
“They didn’t say. Just that it seemed they were being drawn to our Hell gate and that they were more aggressive than usual. The woman vampire had gotten her throat slashed by one.”
The guys stilled, and I gasped.
“It didn’t kill her?”
“Vampires don’t die unless they’re decapitated or their heart is torn out,” Thaddeus told me.
My brows lifted. “Good to know. So, is it weird that it cut her?”
“Super bloody weird,” Blaise answered. “Green-eyed abandoned don’t usually strike a predator. Vampires are predators. The abandoned only attack prey when it’s proper safe.”
“Huh.” I scratched my head. “Well, what’re we waiting for?”
Kai smiled, Blaise chuckled, and Thaddeus groaned.
Thaddeus was the only one unamused, but I’d grow on him one of these days.
I trekked through the forest on high alert as I hunted for the abandoned with the green eyes. The night air was more penetrating than usual.Bitter.
Goosebumps pebbled on my arms as I heard leaves crunch behind me, and I whirled around to see two men flanking a woman, baring their fangs at me.
“Well, well, well. What do we have here?” the woman asked as she turned her nose up at me.
Flowing blonde hair tumbled over her shoulders in glossy waves, and her blue eyes couldn’t seem more disinterested in her own question. I could’ve sworn she had a permanent scowl on her full lips.
The vampire stood like she was God’s gift to humanity. How fucking ironic.
“An enchanting vampire I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting,” one of the creeps with her said.
I snorted. “Cute pick-up line. Does it work on all the blood-sucking girls?”
The other man chuckled. “You’ve got spunk. And normally, yes.”
Both men had the same blonde hair and blue eyes as the woman in the middle, except one was taller than the other.
“This must be the one Thaddeus turned,” the taller man replied.
The woman’s eye twitched at that, and my internal bitch howled with enjoyment. Envy seeped off her in fucking waves.
I tilted my head. “Brune Clan, I presume?”
The woman snubbed her nose at me. “What’s it to you, new-blood?”
I placed my hand on a cocked hip. “I don’t really care. You’re the ones talking to me.”
She growled and charged at me. I darted toward the left, missing her strike and grabbing her throat, amplifying the envy she felt. Her eyes widened as I slammed her into the ground, squeezing off her airway.
I’d dealt with bullies like her in the past. Vampire or not, mean girls always had the same weakness:the bullied fighting back.
I bent down to level my gaze with hers. “Don’t fucking try me, bitch.”
Releasing her, I stood back up asmyguys surrounded me.
