Apparently, my body was running on feral animal mode—something else on the long list of things I needed to learn tocontrol.
“Not hard enough.” Thaddeus came out of nowhere, standing behind Kai with his lips pressed in a thin line.
My annoyance flared. “I’ve only been a fucking vampire for like a day. Give me a break.”
“You think the Order of the Void is going togive you a breakif you don’t measure up to their standards? No. They’ll likely kill you.”
“Oh, bite me.” I rolled my eyes.
“Already did, love.”
I bit down on my bottom lip to stop the sultry smile.
“Stop it, Thaddeus. This ismylesson. Don’t hijack it.” Irritation seeped out of Kai’s voice as he talked to his ‘brother’.
“I’m going for a meeting with the Order.” His gaze swept to me. “I’m going to clue them in on you. Blaise is coming with me, and we’re going to vouch for you. Don’t make us regret it.” And then, he was gone.
I blew out a breath of air, running a hand through my hair. “That’s not fucking terrifying or anything. What if they decide to put me down like a terrier?”
Kai grabbed my hands, running his thumbs over my knuckles. “Look, you should focus on feeling less like this...” My entire body hit a cold front and shivers rocked through me as my muscles tensed. “And more like this.” The coldness dissipated and a warmth submerged me.
I dropped my gaze to his lips that seemed ten-times more tempting than before. “How the hell did you do that?”
He gave me a boyish grin. “It’s my special ability. When I touch someone, I can make them feel whatever I want them to.”
I ran my thumbs over the top of his hands. “That’s incredible.”
His cheeks tinged pink as he pulled his hands from mine. “It’s nothing. Let’s get back to practicing.”
I nodded, picking my hand up and gesturing for him to continue.
“Think of blood.” He pulled out a blood bag, his tongue darting out over his bottom lip.
The familiar gnawing began in my stomach.
“What it’s like when you drink it. Thick, metallic, and sustaining.”
A bolt of pleasure shot through me to my core, and I squirmed. I couldn’t keep my eyes off his bottom lip, still wet from his tongue.
Kai looked extra adorable today. Messy red hair fanned about every which way with those blue fuck-me eyes that kept dipping down toward my cleavage.
“Good,” he said. “Let’s see how you do when you smell it in the air.” He brought the bag to his lips and ripped a hole in it with his fang.
The tangy rust smell of blood filled the air, and my eyes rolled back. My throat burned, begging to have the blood ease the pain. Instead, I sucked in a breath, air filling my throat. I pretended it was blood, but the need worsened.
I need the damn blood.
My eyes shot open, and I lunged at Kai, catching him off guard. I smacked into him, toppling us over his chair and crashing into the floor. The hardness of his body beneath mine sent my sense of touch into overdrive. The devouring thoughts of blood were replaced by thoughts of Kai underneath me.
I stared down at him, tilting my head to the side. Our gazes were locked in a heated battle. I couldn’t tell if he was testing me about the blood in his hand or if he wanted me as much as I wanted him.
“Blimey.” He reached his other hand up, grabbing a fistful of my hair and pulling me toward him until our breaths mingled. “I’m impressed you were able to stop yourself from taking the blood out of my hand.”
Thaddeus’s words from earlier penetrated my thoughts.Always try to redirect your attention when you lose control.Desire was heating my entire body with a completely new hunger taking over.
“Did you ever struggle with your emotions?”
“That lesson’s not until you master your blood-lust.”
